Coronation Street’s latest episode revealed what newcomer Jesse Chadwick was hiding amid concern for Gail Platt, but it wasn’t what he’d been accused of
Coronation Street let slip Jesse Chadwick’s big secret on Friday night, and it had nothing to do with Gail Platt or Damon Hay’s money.
There’s been concern for Gail ever since former character Jesse returned to the show for her exit storyline. Gail’s kids are worried he’s using her for her money and even viewers think there’s something sinister going on.
In the latest episode though Sarah Platt acted on her instincts that Jesse could be the one who stole Damon’s money. Damon had stored away some stolen cash from a robbery, and offered it to Sarah for her daughter Bethany Platt’s medical treatment.
Sarah and Damon were horrified to find out it was gone recently, and soon Sarah learned Jesse had overheard Adam Barlow and Daniel Osbourne talking about the cash. Sarah believed he was acting oddly and followed him as he fled a meal during the latest episode.
When she caught up with him she was stunned to find him looking cosy with a mystery woman. Sarah confronted her mum’s new partner, accusing him of having secret meet-ups with other women.
It soon became apparent that the woman was actually Jesse’s ex-wife Jane. She revealed she’d met up with him to discuss their divorce and how they were going to split things, wanting him to sign the papers.

With this news came a huge bombshell though, as a secret about Jesse’s past was exposed to Sarah. Jane revealed Jesse had been in prison, and that she’d cheated on him while he was away.
Sarah was shocked and confronted Jesse about being a criminal, while he refused to tell her why he went to prison or any other details. Sarah was suspicious and wasted no time in telling her brother David Platt.
But something else Sarah found out during her showdown with Jesse was that he was not the one who stole Damon’s cash. He very clearly had no idea what she was talking about when she asked him about the theft.
With that Sarah believed him, and knew he wasn’t the thief. But does this mean he’s genuine after all and that Gail doesn’t need to be worried ahead of her soap exit?
Fans will have to stay tuned to find out what led to Jesse’s imprisonment and what it means for him and Gail. But more importantly, fans will also find out who really stole the cash it seems.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
