The mystery surrounding Joel’s death thickens as Lisa Swain has been suspected to have killed the Corrie villain. But this Friday, she seemed to set the record straight.
Lisa Swain may not be involved in Joel Deering’s death after all as she explained to her daughter Betsy how she was recently injured – but is there more to her story?
The detective played by Vicky Myers has been trying to find answers after the villain’s body was found in the canal but in a recent Coronation Street episode aired on ITV, it was revealed that she could be a suspect after she unveiled some nasty bruises she’d sustained from an apparent altercation.
During this Friday’s trip to the cobbles (November 1), Lisa Swain was in the company of her daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) when she told the teen her injuries had been caused by a fall in her office at the police station.
Lisa Swain told her troublesome daughter that she’d attempted to grab a file with the help of a chair but, unfortunately, fell off. A far cry from what could have happened as Lisa was seen in another flashback scene, seemingly on Joel Deering’s tail before he was found dead.

However, in later scenes, Betsy made it clear she didn’t believe a word her mother had told her and sought answers from Carla Connor (Alison King). Backed into a corner, Lisa then agreed to take some time off from her hard work – but could she be hiding something else?
While Lisa and even her colleague Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) have both been suspects in Joel’s murder, another popular character has been pointed out as his potential killer – Carla Connor herself, particularly due to her growing connection with Lisa.
However, some fans refuse to believe she could be Joel’s real killer and have suggested that her being on the list only underlines that she could be covering for someone, or that someone linked to her, like Lisa or even her nephew Bobby Crawford who was once romantically involved with Lauren Bolton, did the crime.
Elsewhere, multiple other viewers of the Manchester-based programme have theorised that Betsy could be guilty. One fan posted online: “It’s clearly gonna be DI Swain’s daughter.” Another wrote: “I think Betsy is involved in Joel’s murder.” Other fans were more convinced Swain killed Joel to protect Betsy, and this was how she got the bruises she’s been hiding.
Corrie fans have been eager to see Lisa and Carla grow closer as the rumoured love interests have shared several scenes together, which could be leading up to a whirlwind romance for Carla, months after Peter Barlow left the cobbles to travel around the world.
But with it clear both of them are confused about their feelings for each other, Swain actress Vicky has now teased what could be holding her back. As she addressed the big storyline and fans’ reactions to it, the actress admitted it was “overwhelming” as she shared her hopes for the pair in a recent interview.
