Bernie Winter actress Jane Hazlegrove shared an update after fans were left in tears earlier this month when Paul Foreman tragically died
Coronation Street star Peter Ash was quick to respond as one of his former co-stars gave fans a look at his character’s ‘send-off’. Viewers of the ITV soap were left in tears earlier this month when Paul Foreman tragically died.
Paul, who was first introduced to viewers as David Platt’s cellmate before later making his way to Weatherfield to look for his twin Gemma Winter, was tragically diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in April 2023.
Seventeen months after the diagnosis, Paul died as a result of the life-limiting illness, which affects the brain and nerves, as there is currently no cure.
In his final episode, Corrie fans saw Paul’s health took a sudden turn for the worse and he was rushed to hospital as he struggled to breathe. Later, after doctors informed his family there was nothing more they could do but make him comfortable, Paul took his last breath.
But in a heartbreaking twist, Paul’s husband Billy Mayhew was unable to say goodbye after a series of events, that started with him looking for his lost phone, delayed his efforts to get to the hospital in time.
Since Paul’s death, Billy and Paul’s mother Bernie Winter have struggled to see eye-to-eye over how best to celebrate Paul’s life. As an archdeacon, Billy wants a traditional funeral whereas Bernie wants to remember her fun-loving son with colour flowers, pop songs and flash cars.
Gemma Winter-Brown has since convinced Bernie to let Billy have Paul’s funeral his way while they plan a rave to honour Paul, who was named Appolo at birth.
Taking to Instagram, Jane Hazlegrove has shared a poster for Paul’s rave which is being used on-screen in the ITV soap. The yellow flyer encourages people to “come sing, dance and rave it up,” in Paul’s memory with the timings down as “1.30pm until we feel like it”.
Captioning the post, the actress wrote: “ll welcome! Come and join us for Apollo’s final rave! We are having it … proper Manc old school style! Special thanks to Kit Green, DJs Ryan and Ravey Davey and Prima Doner! @coronationstreet.”
Peter was quick to respond to Jane’s post, asking in the comments: “Can I come?” alongside a crying laughing emoji. Fans were quick to flood the comment with crying laughing emojis while Jane asked in response: “Wot you think?”
Fans were also leaving their comments. @rebecca.shipway.1410 said: “I can well imagine Paul partying along. Don’t know what we’re gonna do without our Paul.” @tracie.lewis50 commented: “Oh you’d love it, come back as an ghost.” @jomartin1974 added: “Best bloody reply EVER #beyondthegrave.”
Others, meanwhile, were very on board with the rave idea. @hannahprentice10 said: “Just amazing. Paul absolutely loved a party.” @juliedawnjohnston320 commented: “Fantastic!! Brilliant idea. Can’t wait.” @beverleyw2211 shared: “Love this, Paul would have too, joking aside, @peterash_85 is a huge miss on the street, we’d all grown to love his character.” @frankhamjoanne8 added: “Love Bernie. She is celebrating Paul’s life her way. Such a beautiful idea.”
