Coronation Street’s Kit has caused plenty of drama – but actor Jacob Roberts has now defended the “bad guy.”
Coronation Street Jacob Roberts has defended his character Kit Green – revealing the sad reason for his “bad guy” behaviour.
Kit made his debut on the soap this year, as Bernie’s (Jane Hazlegrove) long-lost child – and it’s fair to say he’s ruffled plenty of feathers already.
Bernie gave up a Christopher ‘Kit’ Green for adoption almost thirty years ago – and when he was younger, the pair had planned to meet, only for her not to show up. However, a few months ago, she eventually tracked him down.
At first though, Kit wanted nothing to do with her but he later changed his tune and settled into life on the cobbles. Despite vowing to never forgive Bernie, he has gotten to know his brother and sister, twins Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul (Peter Ash).
What’s more, Kit also had a part to play in sicko Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) getting sent to prison for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) – who wasn’t actually murdered. Kit ended up planting Lauren’s DNA in paedophile Nathan’s van and framed him.

He has also struck up a work partnership with fellow copper Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) – and in a shock twist last month, Kit blackmailer Craig’s mum Beth (Lisa George) – and forced her out of the cobbles after 13 years.
Now, actor Jacob has spoken out about playing the divisive character, revealing the heartbreaking reason for his “bad guy” behaviour.
Talking about Kit’s behaviour, Jacob explained to Express and other press: “Kit’s coming across as a bit of a bad guy, but being abandoned once is hard enough, but being abandoned twice!”
He went on: “I think in life you can either feel sorry about yourself or really throw yourself into something and I think that’s what Kit has done, thrown himself right into his work that’s why he’s advanced in all these police training things.”

As for Kit’s conniving side and tendency to blackmail others, Jacob said he loves it. The actor explained: “I love that he will get something on someone else to sort of argue his point, so that he has that protection.”
Jacob continued: “He can be the nice guy, and then he’s not the nice guy and use that against someone else. I love playing that manipulator type of character.”
He also shared a heartbreaking theory that could explain Kit’s behaviour. Jacob said: “The stuff he says to Kirk, I think he might be a bit hurt from a woman. Or is it mummy issues after being abandoned twice?”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
