Coronation Street icon’s death ‘sealed’ as star lets slip true fate

Coronation Street’s Julia Goulding has opened up about David Platt’s upcoming scenes where he’s bleeding to death after being hit by a car, admitting that Shona thinks “he’s dead”

Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has teased her on-screen husband David Platt’s fate on the ITV soap as the iconic character ends up fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car.

In scenes set to air next week, Corrie viewers will be left on the edge of their seats as a car ploughs into David (Jack P Shepherd), who was drunkenly stood in the road. He’s not the only casualty, with pregnant Daisy also hit by the speeding vehicle.

With David lying in the road, bleeding to death, wife Shona runs to his side and begins to worry that he won’t make it. Julia, who plays Shona on the soap, has revealed that her character is sure that David is “dead” when she sees how much blood he’s losing.

When asked what Shona is thinking in the moment, Julia told The Mirror and other press: “Oh yeah, he’s dead. That’s he’s going to bleed to death. With her trying to stop it, there was a lot of blood.”

She added: “Jack was on the floor for a couple of days and we were both covered in this sticky, glucose syrupy blood. We wore quite dark clothing as well so it didn’t upset compliance. But it was really cool.”

Julia added that while Shona notices that David has been behaving strangely since her affair came to light, she is busy trying to keep him alive in the moment. “He’s being very shifty but from when the car hits him, all suspicion in her mind isn’t even working. She’s just trying to keep him alive or hopes that he stays alive,” she said.

“I don’t think she’s really thinking too much about it. I think it will take a few days for her to process what had happened. We see if he survives or not, and then I think she can start to actually put the pieces together of the jigsaw puzzle.”

Julia also revealed that she’s “furious” that co-star Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner, is leaving the soap. When asked how she felt about his exit, Julia said: “Devastated. I love Paddy so much and I could actually be his mother, it’s ridiculous.

“He’s got a very bright future ahead of him and I would love to see him come back at some point, but I don’t know where his life is going to take him. Really sad to lose him.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX.
