Coronation Street horror as David Platt fights for life and Daisy Midgeley’s baby in danger

Lives hang in the balance in the ITV soap next week

David Platt will be left fighting for his life next week as Daisy Midgeley is also seriously injured in a horror hit-and-run in Coronation Street.

As fans of the ITV soap know, David, played by Jack P Shepherd, has been on borrowed time having got on the wrong side of drug lord Harvey Gaskell.

It has become clear in recent weeks that he is being sought out by Harvey’s thugs after taking money which belonged to him, after it was offered to David’s sister Sarah Platt by Harvey’s brother Damon Hay.

Things escalated earlier this month when a terrifying blaze cut through the Platt family’s beloved home, destroying not only bricks and mortar but also the lives of David and his wife Shona’s family and those close to them.

After believing Harvey was behind the attack, it was Shona who discovered it was actually Max Turner. The teen was left fighting for his life after becoming trapped in the home as it was alight before he had to admit he started the fire in a bodged insurance job to help the family get the money they needed to get Harvey off their back once and for all.

With Max new behind bars and awaiting to learn his fate, it appears David and his family still aren’t safe as it’s been revealed that David will be left fighting for his life.

Spoilers for next week reveals David’s rush to court, leaving Max flooded with relief to see his dad. With Shona and Lauren Bolton also in the gallery, the Judge sentences Max. Taking into account the family element of the crime, will Max be shown some leniency?

But it seems David was in a hurry to get to the court because while locking up the salon, former prison mate Andy Garland arrived brandishing a knife, explaining that Harvey wants him dead in order to get his hands on his life insurance.

Later, Shona senses David’s worries and assures him that together they’ll find a way out of their current mess, but David masks his turmoil. Nick and Sarah meet with David in the pub and are concerned to see him knocking back vodka at lunchtime.

Meanwhile, a hungover Jenny Connor admits to Daisy Midgeley that she made a fool of herself in front of Kit Green. Spotting Daniel Osbourne in the pub, Kit takes him to one side and suggests that he should ask Daisy for proof that the baby is actually his and Jenny squirms.

Daniel then confronts Daisy and demands that she swear on the baby’s life that he’s the father. Daisy dashes out of the pub.

As a drunk David stumbles into the road, Shona arrives just in time to see a car hurtling towards David. Suddenly, Daisy appears and the car ploughs into both David and Daisy.

Having heard the crash, Nick Tilsley, Sarah Platt, Daniel, Jenny and Kit fly out of the Rovers to find David and Daisy seriously injured. Shona tends to David but it’s clear he’s bleeding to death as Kit calls an ambulance. Jenny and Daniel, meanwhile, rush to Daisy’s side and beg her to wake up while worried for her unborn baby.

As another week draws to a close in Weatherfield, the residents are left reeling as they pray that David and Daisy will pull through. Meanwhile, DC Green starts asking questions about the crash.
