Coronation Street Gail Platt’s new home ‘revealed’ after 50 years – but it’s not in France

Gail Platt is set to leave Coronation Street after 50 years on the cobbles – and fans are certain they know where she’s moving to

Coronation Street seems to have dropped a major hint about Gail Platt’s new home after her departure from the iconic cobbles. Earlier this year, TV stalwart Helen Worth, who portrays Gail Platt, announced she would be leaving the soap after an impressive 50-year stint. Helen first graced our screens as Gail Platt in 1974 and quickly became a cherished character on the show.

Throughout her time on the Street, Gail has been at the centre of numerous dramatic storylines. From family disputes with her children David (Jack P. Shepherd), Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and Nick Tisley (Ben Price) to shocking murders and affairs, Gail’s tenure in Weatherfield has been anything but dull.

Gail’s departure is set to air on Christmas Day, coinciding with her wedding to Jesse Chadwick (Jesse Thompson). However, whether she will actually tie the knot remains to be seen, reportsĀ Lancs Live. The couple rekindled their romance this year after initially meeting in Thailand a few years ago. However, Gail and Jesse’s relationship hasn’t exactly been well-received by the rest of her family.

Adding to the drama, Gail stunned viewers when she decided to sell her beloved Platt house to raise funds for granddaughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon) following her disastrous cosmetic surgery. Now, as Gail’s exit draws near, fans are convinced they’ve figured out her next destination – and it seems the soap itself gave away the clue this week.

In a recent episode, Jesse suggested to Gail that they should purchase a villa in France and start a new life there. Gail Platt initially resisted the idea of moving, suggesting they should opt for a new build near the Red Rec, a park in Weatherfield. However, in Monday’s episode (December 9), it was evident that Gail had a change of heart.

In a touching scene on the soap, Gail observed her neighbours from a distance. An emotional Gail then told Jesse: “Life goes on and I think I’m ready now to take that step,”, before instructing him to put an offer on a villa. Yet, fans are sceptical about her actually relocating to France. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer expressed: “Going to be so sad to see Gail go.”

Other viewers chimed in with their predictions that Gail might not be moving that far away after all. One person wrote: “I have a feeling the wedding won’t go ahead and she’ll stay in England.” Another agreed: “I can’t see her moving to France as well ngl.” A third speculated: “Hmmm the red rec? ” while another concurred: “Definitely.”

Discussing the upcoming festive drama, Corrie’s new boss Kate Brooks previously hinted that Christmas on the cobbles is “very fun” and “really lively”, but cautioned that “lots of bombshells are dropped”.

“All those secrets come to the forefront on Christmas Day, so you basically have Gail – who’s going to leave the street – in the run-up to Christmas she has found out that some of her nearest and dearest have absolutely betrayed her,” Kate disclosed.

Kate further revealed that Audrey also plays a role in Gail’s betrayal. She explained: “She [Gail] doesn’t know who to believe, even her dear old mum has kind of lied to her and she really struggles with that. And she’s a bit like ‘I don’t know whether I want this, I don’t know whether I want to be with Jesse'” Kate added.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
