Coronation Street filming pictures ‘confirms’ characters caught up in huge fire

A number of Coronation Street favourites have confirmed their involvement in an upcoming fire and explosion that will devastate Weatherfield.

Last week, Metro exclusively revealed that a number of residents’ lives will be left hanging in the balance when they are caught in a family house fire.

A source told us: ‘The early part of the year is going to kick off the new era of Corrie with a bang pretty literally and one of the show’s core families are right at the heart of the fire storyline.

‘With a new boss at the helm, the show isn’t pulling any punches and it’s fair to say some fan-favourite lives are on the line.’

Local residents close to Corrie’s studios in Trafford near Manchester were warned to expect ‘loud explosions and fire effects’ when cast and crew film the scenes across this week.

A post on a Salford community Facebook page – seen by Metro – said that the ITV soap will be ‘recreating an explosion’, with ‘a noise of up to 100db’.

Whilst exact details of new producer Kate Brooks’ first stunt haven’t been revealed, with a spokesperson declining to comment on upcoming stories, we do know that two of the show’s longest-running families will be at the heart of it.

Last night, a number of cast posted behind-the-scenes photos as they braved the cold weather to begin night shoots.

Lucy Fallon, who has played Bethany Platt since 2015, shared a snap of her with co-stars Julia Goulding and Paddy Bever, who play Shona Platt and Max Turner.

The trio were keeping warm in dry robes as they were preparing to be called to set from a green room which is housed on the exterior set.

Later, Abi Webster actress Sally Carman-Duttine uploaded a picture of some heat patches and body warmers strewn across a table, captioning it ‘Night shoots.’

Will the Platts and the Websters find themselves in grave danger?

This wouldn’t be the first time that the Webster family home, No. 13, has gone up in flames.

During the 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2010 – that saw a tram crash into the corner shop and The Kabin, the property was damaged and caught fire. Whilst it was refurbished, it lay empty for six months.

No. 8, home of the Platt clan since 1991 has seen a number of dramas over the years. It will form the centrepiece of this Christmas, as matriarch Gail (Helen Worth) bids farewell to the cobbles after 50 years.
