Coronation Street fans have a theory that proves who DS Lisa Swain’s late partner, Becky, really was after the detective was confronted by troublesome Matty Radcliffe.

It was earlier in 2024 that viewers discovered that Lisa’s late partner was killed in the line of duty. The pair share a daughter, Betsy, and it’s been clear in recent months that Lisa and the teen’s relationship hasn’t been perfect since Becky’s death.

But fans of the ITV soap are now seeing Lisa tentitively embark on a new romance with Carla Connor, which at first caught Betsy off-guard, but they have since seen the trio warming to the idea of being a solid family.

However, amidst the family changes, Lisa is still stuck in the past. The year ended when a stressed-out Lisa revealed that they had a burst pipe and the flat is flooded before Carla invited her and Betsy to stay for new year. As Lisa and Betsy moved into her flat, Carla spotted some files relating to Lisa’s partner Becky’s death amongst Lisa’s things which left her feeling awkward.

Lisa later surprised Carla with a romantic lunch in the café, but the mood was broken when she received an urgent call about an incident. As Carla informed Kit, he also received an urgent request for back up at the same address. Once back on the street, and sporting a bruised face and split lip, Lisa assured Carla she was fine and ready for a drink and when in the Rovers, after the countdown to 2025 had finished, Carla revealed her love for her new partner.

But as the new year got underway on Wednesday night (January 1), Roy Cropper was left concerned about Carla when she started hearing things and looking confused. He suggested she go home and get some rest but, increasingly worried about her, he let himself into her flat to find her barely conscious on the living room floor. He called an ambulance and once in the hospital, the doctor told Roy that he suspected Carla may be suffering from sepsis.

Meanwhile, Lisa was unaware of the drama unfolding as she followed a newly released Matty and confronted him in the precinct, demanding he tell her where he was the night Becky was killed. As he commented about ‘Bex’ saying she wouldn’t be proud of her, Lisa lunged at Matty before being caught and warned off by Kit.

But now Corrie fans think there is more to Matty’s words. @thatsmypeachx said: “Random theory but what if Becky was a bent copper. The fact he specifically says “Your bex would be so disappointed in you” using Lisa’s nickname for Becky and says “thinking you were one of the straight ones” as if maybe Becky wasn’t? Am I going insane? Probably #corrie #swarla.”
