Fans think that faces from the shop owner’s past could be making a return amid his new engagement

Coronation Street fans think they have ‘worked out’ how Dev Alahan’s upcoming wedding to Bernie Winter can be rocked as they remembered a few faces from the shop owner’s past.

Earlier this month, the couple, who recently reunited after splitting up in late October, made it official, with Dev proposing to Bernie after realising life is too short for them to wait after they had fallen out of Joseph Brown’s hoax call to emergency services when Mason Radcliffe was dying having been stabbed by his own brothers.

Bernie argued that Dev wanted Joseph “hung, drawn and quartered” for the prank, which the youngster said was encouraged by cousin Hope Stap, with Dev expressing his concern for daughter Asha, the paramedic who was subject to the hoax call which delayed them getting to Mason in time to help save him.

Neither of them were willing to back down but eventually, Bernie arrived at the shop with a cake and an apology. She spoke about how they both care deeply for their “blended family”, with Bernie admitting she feels like mother to Asha and his other children, though she would never try to replace their late mother, Sunita.

“You know honey, I was wondering why we don’t put a proper ring on that,” he said to her, grabbing what is considered the traditional ring finger. After previously turning down his proposal, Bernie said she was a “work in progress” and asked him to ask her again.

It has since taken the pair time to tell their families as other things got in the way. But during Monday night’s (January 27) trip to the cobbles, in the Rovers, Dev and Bernie finally announced their engagement. Aadi, Asha, Chesney, Gemma and Summer were delighted for them and Chesney raised a toast to the happy couple.

The talk remained on weddings as Asha and Aadi spoke about the huge family weddings they’ve attended in the past, much to the others’ surprise. But the chat got some thinking that some people from Dev’s past could make a return to turn his nuptials into chaos – namely his ex Maya Sharma and the other children he fathered.
