Coronation Street fans ‘work out’ return after 20 years as star ‘quits’ soap

It comes after a number of exits from the cobbles have recently been announced leaving fans gutted

Coronation Street fans think they have ‘worked out’ a new signing after an actress has been rumoured to have quit a rival soap. A number of exits from the cobbles have recently been announced leaving fans gutted.

Sue Cleaver announced her plans to wave goodbye to Weatherfield after 25 years in the role of Eileen Grimshaw. She said: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.

“The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”

More recently, actress Charlotte Jordan has confirmed that she will be bowing out of the ITV soap this year after four years in the role of Daisy Midgeley. The star said in a statement: “My time at Coronation Street is something I’ll always cherish.

“After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.” She added: “It’s been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.”

Confirmation of Charlotte’s exit came after Colson Smith confirmed he was told he is being axed this year as he marks 14 years playing Craig Tinker.

In a social media post, shared to X and Instagram alongside a picture of himself portraying Craig as a police officer, he announced: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025. I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.” Colson added: “For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!”

But, some Corrie fans think Weatherfield could see the return of Candice Stowe following reports that actress Nikki Sanderson is set to bow out of Hollyoaks.

The soap star made her debut in the Channel 4 soap back in 2012 and she’s faced her fair share of struggles including domestic violence, a heartbreaking custody battle, and plenty of relationship ups and downs.

But according to The Sun, actress Nikki decided to move on from Hollyoaks to give herself more freedom to try other roles. A source told the publication: “She met with bosses and told them of her plans to leave, she’d just turned 40 and felt the time was right to say goodbye to Maxine.

“She’s keen to explore other opportunities and is excited to get back out there. She will film her final scenes next month, which will go out on-screen in May.”

While the news hasn’t been confirmed by Hollyoaks or Nikki herself, some fans have pondered whether this could open the door for Nikki’s return to the cobbles as Candice after 20 years.

@camjmes0 said on X: “Kate Brooks has probably convinced Nikki Sanderson to return to Corrie,” before adding: “I need it to happen! Sarah needs some proper mates again.”

@Daniell57812031 replied: “I’d love this to happen! She could hook up with Adam again too.” @Corrieposting shared: “I would actually kill for Candice Stowe to come back. One of my favourite memories is her calling some bully’s mum a shoplifter.” @bredrew2 added: “I wouldn’t hate it! #Corrie.”
