Coronation Street fans spot devastating sign Paul Foreman has just hours left to live

Coronation Street’s Paul Foreman, played by actor Peter Ash, was tragically diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) last year and will die next week in utterly tragic scenes

Coronation Street’s most heartbreaking story ever has nearly come to an end – and fans have spotted a sign that Paul Foreman has just hours left to live.

Paul, played by actor Peter Ash, was tragically diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) last year, with his condition worsening progessively over the months. It was confirmed earlier this week that Paul would die next week and that a devastating twist could see Billy miss the chance to say goodbye.

In tonight’s episode, Paul persuaded Billy to enjoy a rare night out after spending most of his time caring for him. Until mum Bernie got back home, Kit had been keeping an eye on Paul – who ended up struggling to breathe after a scary coughing fit.

While he was watching TV, Kit suddenly noticed that Paul appeared to be struggling to breathe. Jumping up, Kit told him not to panic and grabbed the breathing apparatus, placing it over his mouth and nose as he got him to breathe again.

Later, Bernie returned home and – when she was out of the room – Paul told Kit not to tell her. Kit responded in a way that almost appeared to be forboding, saying: “I should say something, shouldn’t I? In case it happens again.”

Paul asked Kit to keep his breathing struggle quiet from his mum

He added: “You worried she’ll tell Billy and he’ll come home?” To which Paul replied yes. “I do wish I’d met you sooner, you and Gemma.”

“Won’t be long now,” Paul replied in a heartbreaking confession. Kit paused, responding: “Well, how about I spend as much time with you as I can? Make up for what I lost.” To which Paul responded: “Double mint.”

And fans were left fearful after this evening’s episode, with one commenting: “Paul’s gonna die and Billy won’t be there. #corrie.” While another wrote: “#Corrie Paul’s dying tonight isn’t he?” A third worried: “Billy is going to he too drunk to look after Paul isn’t he. He’s not going to be able to hear him choke from the sofa! #Corrie.”

On Monday’s episode, Billy will face a race against time to be there by his side after going out the night before and losing his phone, with it not revealed if he makes it in time. Paul’s mum Bernie and stepdaughter Summer will do everything they can to keep Paul alive while Billy is absent.

After Paul is found unresponsive and struggling to breathe, his frantic family try to find Billy and call for an ambulance. Speaking to The Mirror, actor Dan has teased whether Billy will get his emotional goodbye with Paul, and what could happen if he isn’t able to be with him.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Daniel revealed what would be “Billy’s worst nightmare”, as he revealed Billy’s inevitable heartache about spending Paul’s final night alive out drinking instead of being with him. He said: “It’s the fact he’s spent Paul’s last night on Earth in a bar somewhere, instead of at home. [He could have been] snuggled up with him, falling asleep next to home and then waking up next to him, all those bits in between.”
