Coronation Street fans found themselves fearing for David Platt despite being distracted by an unusual scene during the latest trip to the cobbles – in which his wife worried for his safety.

Fans of the ITV soap saw the character have an emotional Christmas Day – and birthday – as he watched his mother Gail Platt marry Jesse Chadwick before saying goodbye as the newlyweds drove off into the sunset to start a new life in the South of France.

But amidst the family celebrations and tearful farewell, Corrie viewers also saw David return to his old ways as he tricked Adam Barlow into drinking with him as he accused him of having an affair with his wife, Shona Platt. They then took the matter outside the flat and drunk, Adam fell down the stairs with Shona and Sarah Platt finding him at the bottom with bloody injuries.

Sarah vowed to stay with her ex-husband as help arrived while David and Shona headed back to the wedding – but not before heading home first where a row ensued over Shona’s infidelity and David’s lack of care for her over her son, Clayton Hibbs, who recently attempted to take his own life when he thought his mum wanted nothing to do with him, as per David’s words to him in prison.

Later, as Gail was seen saying one last goodbye to her family outside No.8 Coronation Street, where she has spent much of her five decades in Weatherfield, David was seen being confronted by Kit Green after he saw him with Adam after the accident. He then issued him a word of warning over his relationship with Shona, and made it clear he was the one she slept with.

Since then, David has been missing from his family and during Friday night’s (December 27) episode, Corrie viewers saw Shona on a desperate mission to find her husband, amidst dealing with a smug Kit. Max and Lily were wondering where their dad had gone, with Shona trying to hiding the truth about why Daivd has failed to return home.

It was then at the end of the episode that viewers saw David looking at Shona’s string of message on his phone, begging him to come home. He was shown outside in the dark and cold, still wearing his outfit from the wedding day, looking saddened as he slipped his phone back into his pocket and continued to walk the unsavoury back streets.

The moment left some Corrie fans fearing for David. @RyanTheSoapking said: “TW/ Rape Self Harm – Imagine if David started self harming again. I remember him doing that after he was raped by Josh. #Corrie,” to which @Wee_Westie29 replied: “Or he’s had some kind of fit. #Corrie #CoronationStreet @itvcorrie.”

Others, however, were left distracted by the seemingly long battery life of his smartphone.@Patr1ckMcCann asked: “Has David gone to France with Gail? @JackPShepherd88 …Maybe not.
