Coronation Street fans say ‘never’ as they make DS Lisa Swain observation amid Carla Connor moment

A ‘charged’ moment between the two characters comes after fans of the ITV soap have desperately hoped for a romance

Coronation Street fans have been left making an observation about DS Lisa Swain as a character on the cobbles as they went wild for a moment between her and Carla Connor.

Viewers of the ITV soap have desperately hoped for a romance between the two characters as they have been seen growing close in recent months, which began when Carla’s friend Roy Cropper was accused of the presumed murder of missing teen Lauren Bolton.

While Roy has since been released, the truth about what happened to Lauren has continued to pull the two together. Carla became a confidant for the detective sergeant, particularly when it comes to problems with herdaughter Betsy, who is now working for Carla at Underworld.

During Monday night’s Corrie, fans saw Swain come to Carla’s aid. The businesswoman’s day was seen going from bad to worse when Betsy let slip to an important client that she is in court for ABH while Sally Metcalfe admits Sarah Platt is in Turkey, where her daughter remains in hospital following life-changing surgery.

While the chaos at the factory was unfolding, Carla was in court where she came face to face with Tom, the dad of the lad she knocked off of his bike after she caught him terrorising Roy.

Back at the factory with the client less than impressed and Carla was quck to take her anger out on Betsy and Sarah, unaware that Tom had followed her back from court and was watching her oversee a delivery. She was then left startled when Tom appeared, his fury evident, leaving Carla fearing for her life.

However, as Swain headed to talk to Carla after hearing about Betsy’s sacking, she stumbled across the scene and quickly jumped into action and arrested Tom in front of a shaken Carla. Later, she paid Carla a visit to see how she was and with Ryan Connor leaving them alone, the pair were seen opening up over a bottle of wine.

A charged moment between the pair followed where Carla tenderly grabbed Lisa’s face and begged her not to put herself in danger, for Betsy’s sake. After a brief moment, Lisa became overwhelmed, and rushed out of the door, just as Carla seemingly realised she’d felt something between the pair.

And it didn’t take Corrie fans long to assume they’ll soon be a couple. @abaker20 said: “Please tell me I’m not the only one who hopes Carla and Lisa will be a couple. I see the fun bestie, but there’s more than that. #corrie.” @flaxscottz commented: “That was so worth the wait!! Swarla is coming for every soap couple that has ever been known. Fantastic episode with two giant talents thrown together to devour a quality script. Hats off! #corrie.”

@thomasoxley wrote: “Loving the Carla/Lisa double act! YES! Make the a couple but make them a powerful couple! A couple no one should mess with. Love it! #corrie #coronationstreet.” @Alicia1985 shared: “Absolutely love DS Swain, and Carla has been my fave character for years, I’m so here for this pairing! #corrie.” @d_a_v_e_m_a added: “I’m actually quite obsessed with Swain and Carla’s romance. It’s done so well. Been a slow burn but it just makes sense. #Corrie.”

Others, however, were full of praise for Vicky Myers, who plays Swain, after she was made a regular cast member earlier this year. @scripttoscene said: “I don’t think I have ever seen an actor on Coronation Street gone from playing a side character to a main character and flourish brilliantly well. @vicksmyers deserves so much praise.”

@lesleycampbell463 replied: “Totally agree. Thinks she’s a great addition to Corrie.” @margaretlewins added: “Two great actors Lisa is a great addition to Corrie to come from playing background scenes then becoming all in is just brilliant she deserves her place there and these two together.”
