Coronation Street fans have demanded a new adittion to Carla Connor and Lisa Swain’s romance storyline after their relationship was almost derailed by another stumbling block.

Fans spent months willing there to be a new relationship between the two characters, played by Alison King and Vicky Myers, which first started earlier this year when Carla became a listening ear for the stressed-out detective as she managed her teenage daughter and the missing Lauren Bolton case.

Carla quickly became a good friend to Lisa until a charged moment between the pair in October suggested there was more to their feelings. It was then in November that, after some advice from Ryan Connor, Carla headed back to her flat where she found Lisa getting dressed after spending the night on the sofa following a drunken night in the Rovers Return.

However, Carla told her not to bother putting her clothes back on, before grabbing her face and kissing her, with Lisa quick to reciprocate. The pair’s relationship then failed to progress until, at the end of last month, Carla was attacked in a planned burglary at Underworld, set up by Lisa’s daughter for Betsy for Matty and Logan Radcliffe.

The pair have since been quietly going about their business but during Monday night’s (December 16) trip to Weatherfield, Carla and Lisa decided to make the most of the Chariot Square Hotel’s couples spa deals. But Lisa ended up hurt when hotel owner Debbie Webster spotted the women together and spoke about how nice it was to see friends enjoying the treatments, without Carla correcting her.

Later, Lisa made a comment about them being ‘just mates’ and Carl was quick to explain that she didn’t want their relationship being revealed through gossip from Debbie. While she also said she would prefer to keep their relationship quiet until they were both ready to reveal it, she said she would be happy tell the world if it was what Lisa wanted.

They were seemingly back on track, until Lisa got a case of the green-eyed monster. During Wednesday’s (December 18) Corrie, Lisa asked Sarah Platt and Izzy Armstrong what Carla was up to and didn’t seem too thrilled when they revealed that she was having a long lunch meeting with a handsome client.

Lisa then set up her own meeting in the Bistro, where she kept an eye on Carla and her flirty meeting with an Underworld client. Then, as soon as Carla stepped out to take a call, Lisa swept in and gave the man, Gareth, a stark warning to keep his hands to himself, or she’ll arrest him for sexual harassment.

Carla, however, didn’t take kindly to her interruption, and demanded to know what she was playing at. As she defended herself, Carla was quick to point out that Gareth was actually happily married to a man, leaving Lisa looking silly. Her attempts to apologise didn’t work as he stormed out, with Carla not too far behind him.

Others, however, were distracted by Lisa’s lack of attention for the woman she was supposedly mentoring. @beakybox commented: “That poor woman getting “mentored” by Lisa #swarla #Corrie.” @_chandelierbing added: “Can’t stop thinking about that girl, new to the force and probably so nervous to start her mentorship with a Detective Sergeant, only for said Detective Sergeant to ignore her, threaten a man, and have a blazing domestic with her girlfriend in front of her. #Swarla #Corrie.”
