Coronation Street’s latest episode saw David Platt in turmoil after recent events on the ITV soap, amid producer Kate Brooks confirming a ‘massive stunt’ linked to the character
There were concerning scenes for David Platt on Coronation Street on Friday night.
In the wake of his wife Shona’s fling reveal and his mother Gail Platt leaving Weatherfield for good, David vanished and left his family worried in the latest episode of the ITV soap. Friday night saw Shona frantically searching for her husband, leaving him messages too.
Failing to get hold of him, she desperately sought out Adam Barlow after his clash with David the day before. But Adam was in no mood for drama after his hospital dash, no thanks to David.
The character had gotten Adam drunk after wrongly assuming he was the man Shona had cheated with. After a weird chat with Kit Green though, he seemed to make a realisation – with Kit being the man Shona had actually slept with.
On Friday, viewers had no idea where the character was – ahead of him taking centre stage in a “massive stunt” that’s set to have “massive consequences” for the street. For most of the episode his children Max and Lily were wondering where he’d gone, with Shona trying to hide the truth.
As the episode came to an end though, we saw David seeing Shona’s messages begging him to come home. He was shown outside in the cold, still wearing his outfit from the day before.
With cuts on his face, he seemed upset and not himself as he staggered around before going somewhere we didn’t see. He appeared to be at a camp occupied by people who are homeless – but what is he doing there, and will he return?

Viewers feared for David’s wellbeing after seeing him clearly in a state. Some feared he may have suffered a seizure, after his past Epilepsy diagnosis, as others feared he may self-harm. A viewer posted: “TW/ Rape Self Harm – Imagine if David started self harming again. I remember him doing that after he was raped by Josh.” Another said: “Or he’s had some kind of fit.”
It comes as Corrie producer Kate Brooks told The Mirror that huge scenes were ahead for David, after he stole Damon Hay and Harvey Gaskell’s money. With the plot set to “escalate massively”, Kate told us: “The story we’re telling is one of a very desperate David, trying to protect his family and keep Harvey and his goons at bay.
“He is struggling to navigate that, and struggling to pay back this big debt he has. He’s struggling to protect his family. It all comes to a massive head in early February, when we play a massive stunt that has huge consequences for David.
“So, in trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear. So, a real journey for David. He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well. Somebody does get embroiled in David’s downfall, which is quite unexpected.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
