Coronation Street fans think they have spotted a ‘blunder’ in Evelyn Plummer’s exit storyline as they were left sharing the same sentiment about her departure from the street.
Viewers of the ITV soap recently saw the character deciding to go to university to read law having been reminded of her passion for the subject and to learn something new.
During this week’s string of episode of Corrie, Evelyn was seen being overwhelmed with the admin around her new law course on top of working and family life, with her grandson Tyrone Dobbs often roping her in to look after his two teenage children, Hope and Ruby.
With Roy Cropper reminding her that she won’t succeed in her course with all the distractions, Evelyn decided she needed to move out of Tyrone’s house if she’s going to have any chance of completing her studies and went to visit a halls of residence.
It was during Thursday night’s (January 9) episode that Evelyn officially made the decision to leave as she sat Tyrone down in the living room in number nine. Evelyn told him that she’d found a spot at a university halls of residence much to his surprise, suggesting that moving in with students wouldn’t be any better for her.
Evelyn assured her grandson that “it hasn’t exactly been the Waltons’ living here,” before he seemingly accepted her decision. They then shared an emotional moment as he said that he would miss her living under his roof, which in return left her teary eyed so she hurried him to make a brew to distract them from their exchange.
Corrie fans were confused by the quick turnaround of Evelyn enrolling at university. @a___w89 said: “Evelyn applied to uni at the beginning of the week and she’s in a few days later? Surely it’s not that quick #corrie.” @sbrownstortford commented: “Evelyn already heading off to Uni, just like that! #Corrie.” @demelcy posted: “Evelyn enrolled onto a Law course at the speed of light! #corrie.” @cfs_jo asked: “How did Evelyn get student finance sorted so quickly? And a place in halls in January? #Corrie.”
Others, meanwhile, were sad to see her go. @DanHorses2 wrote: “I’m gonna miss Evelyn , always makes me laugh #Corrie @itvcorrie.” @purplehairedholly shared: ” I don’t want Evelyn to leave, I want her to do the uni course but not leave. Ngl kinda want her and Roy together.” @novasyncx replied: “Think most of us agree with you.” @lisa_a_jones added: “#Corrie Don’t go Evelyn……this show needs you!”
Evelyn’s exit comes after actress Dame Maureen Lipman, who has played the character since 2018, confirmed a temporary absence. She told The Sun last year: “I’ll be absent for a while, and then coming back. I’m not going to die but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life.”
