Coronation Street fans have said they are ‘not ready’ for a shock ‘affair’ to hit the cobbles as the actress poised to be involved in the storyline reacted to a new casting.
Carl Webster will soon be arriving onto the Cobbles for the very first time amid a complicated time for the family as his older half-brother Kevin Webster faces treatment for testicular cancer, while older half-sister Debbie Webster is set to be diagnosed with dementia.
While Carl has been mentioned over the years, the character has never been seen in Weatherfield before. He is the son of Bill and Elaine Webster and was born in Germany where his parents were living at the time. When he was nine years old, his father Bill left Germany and returned to Weatherfield after his mother Elaine had an affair.
Carl is set to be played by Jonathan Howard, who is known for his role in the Dream Team as Gavin Moody and as Ian Boothby in Thor: The Dark World.
Corrie fans will first get to see Carl on-screen on April 11 when he’ involved in a heated scrap with Kevin’s wife Abi over a car park space before either realise she is in fact his brother’s wife.
As sparks fly and temperatures rise between them, can Carl charm his way out of this one and will Kevin and Debbie be pleased to have their little brother hanging around, whatever his motives are?

It comes as reports suggest that Abi is set to embark on a steamy affair while Kevin faces his cancer diagnosis and treatment. And it’s been speculated that it will be with Carl.
Following the casting announcement, Corrie fans have been quick to comment. @mikepriestley13 said: “Just read Abi will have an affair on Kevin Webster with his brother Carl when he arrives this year… to be quite honest I thought an affair for Abi was coming but with Ronnie as they were getting closer after her breakdown etc.. but the brother that’s unforgivable #Corrie.”
@livelylady0101 shared: “The writers were really imaginative with Carl’s character (he’s Kevin’s dad’s son from his second marriage) he rocks up and has an affair with Abi. Wouldn’t have taken long to work that out and why would Abi do that.” @vbcatlady posted: “Sad to hear Abi will cheat on Kev.”
Meanwhile, @raq91x commented: “I’m not saying I agree with Abi cheating I’m just saying I get it …” to which Abi star Sally Carman-Duttine replied with a single crying laughing emoji.
