Coronation Street fans make same claim as David Platt death ‘sealed’ after horror plot

Some fans had the same comments about David’s latest storyline as his future was seemingly ‘sealed’ by the actor who plays him

Coronation Street fans couldn’t help but make some of the same comments about David Platt’s latest storyline as his future was seemingly ‘sealed’ by the actor who plays him.

The hairdresser has been making questionable decision in a bid to protect his family ever since it was discovered he had stolen money which belonged to gangster Harvey Gaksell, after it was offered to David’s sister Sarah Platt by her former flame, and Harvey’s brother, Damon Hay.

Harvey has made it clear from behind bars that David and his family aren’t safe until he gets his money back and he was made to feel there was only one way out of the mess he’s in.

During Monday night’s (March 3) edition of the ITV soap, viewers saw David was confronted by former prison mate Andy Garland, who he had been doing criminal jobs for, when he pulled out a knife and said Harvey wanted him dead for his life insurance payout.

David, who had earlier been in court where his stepson Max Turner was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for arson, managed to see Andy off without causing any damage but later in the episode he was called back to the salon by David who had a shocking offer.

In heartbreaking scenes, David saw no way out of his feud with Harvey with his kids at risk, especially Max now that he is in prison. David told Andy the only way to get Harvey off of both their backs was for him to die.

It was then during Wednesday night’s (March 5) Corrie that David’s plan played out. He e spent time writing notes to his family and talking to his grandmother Audrey Roberts, with his inner monologue heard throughout as he counted down to 2pm, the moment he planned for Andy to plough into him in the middle of the street.

When the final moments began, David stood in the middle of the road. A car then came hurtling at speed, and Shona watched in horror as David was ploughed in to, with Daisy Midgeley caught in the crossfire.

The pair were rushed to hospital with David’s life hanging in the balance, with medics having to bring him back around before doing emergency surgery and placing him in a coma. Daisy, meanwhile, suffered injuries to her arm but was told her unborn baby was doing ok as there was a steady heartbeat.

But some fans couldn’t help but make the same comments about Corrie’s latest storyline, which follows a number of dramatic plots to kick off 2025.

@Louise07955 said: “Corrie really are getting their moneys worth from the hospital set someone’s there every week it must be the most used set in the past year. #corrie #itv #hospital @StuartYoung001 echoed: “Getting good wear out the hospital set this year… #Corrie.”

@bejokex wrote:” This is just a second rate Casualty at this stage. Ditch the hospital and police station! Bring back Freshco! #Corrie.” @CyprusSuzie posted: “Becoming more like Casualty every week! #Corrie.” @vjw79 added: “Really good episode today of Casualty! #Corrie.”

Others, however, were impressed with how the episode played out. @D_MQuail said: “This episode of #coronationstreet is being incredibly well done. I’ve lived that day that David’s living, as some of you good fuckers that helped me are aware, I was maybe an hour away from t-minus brown bread. Flawlessly portrayed by @jackpshepherd #Corrie.”

@MJ_JJ061215 shared: “Absolutely phenomenal performance from @jackpshepherd as David tonight – you really felt his pain. Loved the filming as well. Brilliant episode. #Corrie.” @BlueDiamond0000 added: “I think the storyline is brilliant. The acting is well executed and it’s showing how desperate people can get to save loved ones. Even if this is far fetched, it’s a soap and it’s meant to be exaggerated. #Corrie.”

The scenes came after Jack P Shepherd, who will have soon portrayed David for 25 years, seemingly confirmed the fate of his and his character’s time on the cobbles.

Appearing via a video call on This Morning, the actor said it would have been “nice” to reach his 25-year milestone on the ITV show next month, but that the next instalment marked “the end”.

Discussing the episode, the 37-year-old said: “Twenty-five years – its a long time. I think it’s about 25 years next month, it would have been nice to kind of reach that milestone but sadly it’s tonight, it’s the end. But I’ve loved every minute of it.”

Asked if Wednesday’s episode is the actual end for his character, he added: “Yeah, I can’t believe we’ve managed to keep it out for so long but I think everyone will enjoy it.”

Afterwards, This Morning’s soap expert Sharon Marshall asked: “Has he just given us a massive bombshell?” to which presenter Ben Shephard replied: “I think he might have.”
