The former builder’s emotional death came 17 months after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease
Coronation Street fans had one complaint about Paul Foreman’s last episode as the character tragically died in emotional scenes. The former builder’s death came 17 months after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
Paul, played by Peter Ash was told had had the life-shortening disease, in which messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles, shortly after being knocked over by Carla Connor, who had been unknowingly drugged by serial killer Stephen Reid, in an Underworld van.
After being supported by his loved ones as his health deteriorated, in his final hours, Paul was rushed to hospital as he struggled to breathe and shortly after arriving, doctors informed his family there was nothing more they could do but make him comfortable.
It was Bernie, Gemma and Summer who were all by Paul’s side and during Paul’s final moments, they tried to get Billy, who was running to the hospital after getting trapped in traffic in Frescho’s car park, on the phone, with him believing he had spoken to Paul.
However, the trio of women weren’t honest with Billy as Paul had already passed in a heartbreaking twist after a series of events delayed his efforts to get there. Later, when Billy arrived, he was heartbroken to see a doctor confirming Paul was gone before bursting into the room and taking his husband in his arms for one last time.
But as Corrie fans reacted to the sad scenes, they shared how they’d wished the episode, like another recent special, had been dedicated to Paul’s story as it ran like a normal episode with other storylines intertwined.
@BallumsHouse said: “THIS EPISODE SHOULD BE ABOUT PAUL #Corrie.” @terrettcorey commented: “Paul’s last episode really doesn’t need Leanne & Rowan #corrie.” @TwellyWatcher wrote: “I don’t know, I think this episode should have entirely been focused on Paul instead of all of the Rowan stuff as usual #Corrie.”
@frostmourned posted: “They really should have given Paul the entire episode. #Corrie.” @dearestpoet_ shared: “Feel like tonight’s episode should have been all about Paul, not Leanne or Cassie. touching and devastating scenes, but it still should have only focused on Paul, like when Sinead passed away #corrie.” @corriepodcast added: “I’ll have to watch the episode again, but my initial reaction is they should’ve let Paul pass away during the dedicated episode a few weeks ago. #corrie.”
