Coronation Street fans have issued a demand for the show to ‘keep’ one of its most much-loved characters as they praised bosses for giving them a ‘needed treat’.
There were heartbreaking scenes during the latest visit to Weatherfield on Wednesday night (February 12) as Kevin Webster was told he has testicular cancer. The mechanic didn’t want to worry his wife, Abi, who is currently dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which was triggered by finding teenager Mason Radcliffe bleeding to death after he was involved in a horror attack at the hands of his own brothers.
Kevin’s ex-wife Sally Metcalfe instead went with him to his appointment at the hospital after she insisted he shouldn’t go alone. While he was gone, his sister Debbie found Abi suffering a heartbreaking flashback, in which she sees vision of her late son, Seb Franklin, looking like he did when he died following a hate crime attack.
To keep Abi busy, Debbie got the pair to do some painting where they both had to do portraits of their other halves. The pair agreed not to laugh at what each other had designed, and while Debbie’s picture did bare a resemblance to the ‘love of her life’ Ronnie Bailey, Abi didn’t quite fully capture her husband’s good side leaving Debbie in stitches.
The hilarious scenes were much-welcomed by Corrie fans but it also left many demanding that the decision to write actress Sue Devaney out of the show as Debbie as part of a hard-hitting dementia storyline is revoked.

Brilliantly funny scene, such a treat to have these scenes between #Abi & #Debbie. Good to see them both laugh, especially with Abi’s mental health struggles currently. I love it when #Corrie writers sprinkle in the humour.”

Said it before and I’ll say it again, Debbie needs to stay! #Corrie.” @jrocksy added: “Save Debbie Webster! @itvcorrie please please listen to your fans, we want to keep her! She’s one of the good ones…real, authentic, funny. Come on, do the right thing!”
