Coronation Street fans ‘hate to say it’ as they spot ‘new Gary Windass’

It comes as David Platt’s secrets keep spilling out

Coronation Street fans have said they ‘hate to say it’ as they made a U-turn on a relatively new character on the cobbles, who they’ve now named the ‘new Gary Windass’.

Fans of the ITV soap know that David Platt has been hiding many secrets, but one of the biggest is that he stole Harvey Gaskell’s money, which brother Damon Hay had offered to ex-girlfriend Sarah Platt when her daughter Bethany needed help following botched cosmetic surgery in Turkey.

In scenes aired last week, David was furious, releasing not only was he having to share his birthday with Christmas and his mother Gail Platt’s sixth wedding day to Jesse Chadwick, but also feeling that his mum had turned her back on him with her plans to leave Weatherfield behind.

But he was soon distracted when his nephew Harry, Sarah’s son, emerged from his bedroom clutching a handful of £20 notes that he’d found in the wardrobe, with viewers knowing it was the cash he stole from Harvey.

Jesse covered that David was saving for Shona’s Christmas gift but later, he urged David to accept to a deal to take the cash off his hands, without losing the funds to buy the house, and the pair reached an agreement. The pair then stood in the dark garden of No.8, passing over the money.

But during Wednesday night’s (December 18) Corrie, Matty and Logan Radcliffe started causing trouble for David, confronting him as they know he stole the money. He tried to deny it and brushed the trouble some pair off, until he found them in a shut salon with his grandmother Audrey Roberts.

He was quick to usher them out, revealing that he’d already spent the money on the deposit for a house. But Matty and Logan warned that if they didn’t get the money back, Audrey would come to harm. David tried to get the money back from the house deposit, but when that failed, he came up with a new plan.

As he was out to collect Gail and Jesse’s wedding rings, David met up with Matty and Logan and offered to pay them in instalments, starting with the rings. He then got them to help him fake being robbed so when he returned home sporting a bruised face, Jesse and Shona were horrified.

He explained that he had been jumped by four lads on e-bikes and had already reported the incident to police. But Shona quickly uncovered his lies and when she confronted him, he was forced to come clean. Shona headed to the pub where she asked DC Kit Green to deal with Matty and Logan off the record and blackmailed him into helping as she pointed out she knows he’s hidden that Daisy Midgeley was behind the accident that left her with a broken arm.

With his career already on the line, Kit was later seen cornering Matty and attacked him, warning him to stay away from David and the Platts from now on. And Corrie fans were quick to respond as they made a U-turn on Kit after initially not warming to him.

@jamienopt said: “Kit might be the next Gary windass, I hope he gets what’s coming to him soon though.” @jordsdanx commented: “Kit is actually one of the best additions to the show this year.” @miss_miller_28 wrote: “Kit is absolutely brilliant I’m so invested.” @phoenix1979_gsd commented: “This actually made me like Kit.” Barbara Mason added: “I hate to say this but I’m beginning to quite like Kit.”
