Viewers of the ITV soap were left in tears over his heartbreaking last comments
Coronation Street fans were left with the same response to Mason Radclife’s shocking death scenes as they were left in tears over his heartbreaking last comments.
As viewers of the ITV soap know, Mason has been trying to turn things around after he was eventually served justice for his cruel bullying campaign against Liam Connor last year.
But he’s struggled to escape his brothers – Matty and Logan – who have been determined to cause havoc on the cobbles, and not just for Mason. But Corrie fans first saw things really escalate when DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) showed Mason photographs taken at the crime scene of her late partner Becky’s death and revealed that his brothers were behind the murder.
Determined to take his brothers down, Mason searched their flat and found a WWII helmet, matched to the one listed in Becky’s case file, and handed it into the police station. After being questioned by DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), the brothers went looking for Mason intent on brutal revenge.
Knowing he needed to leave after crossing the pair, Mason set his sights on Germany and was seen kindly thanking Tim (Joe Duttine) and Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) for providing him with the home life he had never had before as they took him under their wing in recent weeks.
But as Matty and Logan caught up with Mason, things took a terrifying turn. When the altercation broke out in the children’s play area at the precinct, Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) managed to make his escape, however, Mason wasn’t so lucky.
It was Abi Webster (Sally Carmen) was then the first at the scene to find Mason bleeding and did her best to stop the flow of blood before the ambulance showed up, which was delayed due to a hoax call. Betsy Swain arrived, and she and Abi assured a scared Mason that he would be alright – but attempts to save his life ultimately failed.
Following the emotional scenes, Corrie fans expressed their sadness at Luca Toolan’s exit in the role of Mason as they felt the character was just redeeming himself after last year’s bullying nightmare.
@spidey_king22 complained: “Mason was such a lovely person in the end and the writers go and kill him #corrie why do they need to kill him ffs Now that he is gone.” @hollycarruthers commented: “It’s a shame they didn’t keep mason in he had so much potiental probably the best young actor there #corrie.” @x_holliie_x wrote: “Can’t believe they killed mason off! #Corrie.”
@O2bgayandonline shared: “Genuinely so upset Mason died. Also kinda refusing to believe it? Loved him & the redemption arc he was having. Guess that makes it all the more shocking to an audience – warming to a character then losing them suddenly. But shit, man…I was so sure he would make it #corrie.”
@andrewmcb posted: “When Mason said ‘I want my mum’ #Corrie.” @savreswain typed: “The brilliant writing choice for Mason to be crying, petrified of dying & for some of his last words to be “I want my mum” was SO important because it highlights that he’s a scared CHILD.” @Kelsian_03 added: “I’ve got to say that Luca Toolan was amazing in tonight’s episode. Just as when Mason was redeeming himself his life was cut too short. Talented and raw performance. Brilliant and engaging episode #Corrie.”
