Lily Platt left Coronation Street viewers scratching their heads as she returned to the ITV soap after disappearing for months looking completely different to usual
Coronation Street fans were left distracted as Lily Platt made a rare appearance during the latest visit to Weatherfield as she begged her uncle Nick Tilsley to play football with her in the garden.
Fans of the ITV soap will know that Lily (Brooke Malonie) is the 10-year-old daughter of David (Jack P Shepherd) and Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) and half-sister of Max Turner (Paddy Beaver).
When Lily was born, Kylie did not know if the biological father was her husband David, or his brother Nick, although she was quickly determined to be her partner David’s daughter following a DNA test.
Lily lost her mother before she was even three, when Kylie was stabbed by Clayton Hibbs during an altercation at Prima Doner. Lily continues to live at 8 Coronation Street with her father, brother Max and grandmother Gail. David is now married to Shona Platt, who has taken on a maternal role in Lily’s life.
During Monday’s (August 19) episode, fans couldn’t believe their eyes as budding footballer Lily was spotted in the kitchen with her dad and Shona as she tried to convince Nick to have a kickabout with her.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “When did Lily get so tall? She’ll be towering over David next year.” Another added: “Good god! Lily Platt has returned as a giant!”
A third person posted: “Didn’t recognise Lily for a minute then. WOW she’s shot up.” A fourth social media user said: “Wow, Lily Platt appears to have grown up and got a growth spurt very quickly since she was last seen. she’s at that age i guess.”
The role of Lily was originally played by twins Ava and Lilly Bushell from her birth in August 2013 until August 2014. From September 2014 until May 2016, she was played by Betsie and Emmie Taylor. The role was once again recast and taken over by Brooke the following month until present day.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
