Coronation Street fans have been left divided after watching the ‘traumatic’ events unfold that saw Carla Connor and DS Lisa Swain at risk of losing their lives at the hands of Rob Donovan.

During Monday night’s (February 17) trip to Weatherfield, fans saw Rob and Carla both undergo their operations after prisoner Rob was proven as a match for Carla’s latest kidney transplant.

But as Lisa – and viewers of the ITV soap – knew already, Rob had an alterior motive as he plotted his escape before Lisa intervened and promised to try and get his conviction overturned if he went ahead with being a donor for Carla.

When he woke from the transplant op, Lisa paid him a visit and confirmed she would not go ahead with their deal, despite given Rob ‘insurance’ in the form of an audio recording confirming her plans.

Furious with Lisa, Rob set about executing another plan which saw prison officer and Rob’s secret partner Mandy sneak into Carla’s hospital room, put her in a wheelchair and said she’d use her gun if Carla didn’t comply with her demands.

Mandy put Carla in another room and said they’d wait for Rob, who was seen in Lisa’s car after stealing another officer’s clothes and sneaking out of the hospital himself.

He ended up attacking Lisa as he realised she was attempting to make a phone call. Rob eventually made it to the room where Mandy and Carla were waiting. He was shocked to find out about Mandy’s pregnancy and realising she had been used, she left. Rob attempted to follow suit.

But Carla found the energy to push her brother down the stairs and a weakened Rob as a result of his surgery saw him fall over the balcony, with Lisa finding him at the bottom. As she looked up, bloodied and brusied from her own beating, she was heard asking Caral: “What have you done?”

And while the scenes of her being attacked by Rob upset Corrie viewers, other fans were also divided by Lisa’s first comments to Carla.

@daisy_blackmore22 said; “The way he attacked her made me feel sick to my stomach.. not Lisa.” @chelseaprice__ commented: “This scene was so hard to watch but Vicky absolutely smashed tonight’s scenes as always so proud of her.” @vicky.myersfan222 wrote: “My heart broke .. poor Lisa.. didn’t expect it to be so brutal honestly .. made me feel sick .. the acting was just amazing. Vicky was so perfect wow.”

I hated this so much but well done corrie for the acting again.” @aud73 shared: “Not impressed with Lisa’s reaction..” @go05e_dc added: “So the first thing Lisa says to Carla is ‘what have you done?’ !!! Not how are you, are you ok, what happened. Please tell me she’s not going to a rest her for attempted murder.”

However, @Indigo9944 shared: “When Lisa ‘what have you done?’ to Carla, she means like ‘what are we going to do?’ Kinda thing.” @Kelsian_tvsoaps added: “It’s not the time but it’s a little funny that Lisa said “what have you done?” like Lisa we all know Carla is capable of protecting herself or doing harm to others remember the lad on the bike with Carla’s car door #Swarla.”
