Coronation Street David Platt’s sad death announcement as heartbreaking exit revealed

Coronation Street legend David Platt made a shocking death pledge to Andy on the ITV soap on Monday night, just as a heartbreaking exit was seemingly confirmed for another character

There was double heartbreak on Coronation Street on Monday night, as one character announced their ‘impending death’ and another’s exit was revealed.

David Platt and his son Max Turner took centre stage on Monday, as Max faced court and scenes led to David making a heartbreaking decision. Max was facing court over the arson he committed on his family’s home just weeks ago, nearly getting himself killed in the process.

With him facing charges, Max waited to learn his fate in court, where he and his loved ones were stunned by the sentencing handed to him by the judge. Max was given six and a half years in prison, confirming his exit from the show after actor Paddy Bever quit the role.

Max was understandably heartbroken as he said his goodbyes, with this possibly being Paddy’s last scenes onscreen. Elsewhere, his father David was involved in his own drama after former inmate Andy’s true intentions were exposed.

After Andy managed to get David caught up in dodgy dealings recently with David later being attacked on Monday night Andythen confronted him with a knife. He told David that villain Harvey Gaskell wanted him dead for his life insurance payout, after David stole Harvey’s money.

Andy fled after the showdown, but later in the episode he was called back to the salon by David who had a shocking offer. In devastating scenes, David saw no way out of his feud with Harvey with his kids at risk, especially Max now that he is in prison.

David told Andy the only way to get Harvey off of both their backs was for him to die. David asked Andy to kill him, leaving him shocked.

David said to call it “a mercy killing or a last favour”, begging Andy to kill him but to make it look like an accident not wanting Andy to face trouble. Andy asked if he was sure to which David explained his reasons, fearing if he did not die his kids might.

Andy was shocked by the plan as David gave him details of where he would be the next day, telling him it had to be done tomorrow. He told him: “Listen, I am gonna spend a bit of time with my family and I’ll say my goodbyes but it needs to be tomorrow.”

David went on: “Just hit me fast and hit me hard alright, I need to die.” Given the devastating hit and run scenes airing on Wednesday night it seems this is down to David, but will he or Daisy Midgeley, who gets caught up in the crash, survive?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
