The ITV soap has revealed the ‘plot will thicken’ in upcoming scenes
Coronation Street has confirmed what happens next after Joel Deering’s death in Weatherfield’s ‘biggest-ever whodunnit’. The solictior went missing at the end of last month as his horrific crimes were set to come to light.
As viewers of the ITV soap know, it was assumed Joel had taken his own life after he was set to face court for some of his evil crimes. Earlier this year it was revealed that he was Lauren Bolton’s ‘secret boyfriend’ and was behind her disappearance and presumed murder after he was seen attacking her with a chair leg.
Luckily, the teen survived and returned to Weatherfield over the summer. However, she was quickly confronted by Joel and through flashbacks, fans discovered what really happened between the pair – showing Joel had groomed Lauren, giving her money in return for sex.
While Joel’s grooming was becoming difficult to prove, DS Lisa Swain and Joel’s ex-fiancee, with the help of Swain’s daughter Betsy’s admission, managed to nail Joel for buying the drugs used to prompt Lauren’s early labour, having intended for her to miscarry their son, Frankie.
However, at the end of last month, Corrie, viewers saw Joel not show up to his plea hearing and a warrant was issued for his arrest. After transferring money to Lauren and his ex-wife Emily, it was believed Joel may end up taking his own life.
Bit it was during Monday night’s (October 14), Corrie that viewers saw Kit Green, after Swain was taken off Joel’s case, and PC Craig Tinker studying CCTV from a train station car park, in which they saw Joel and then his dad, Gus, around a locker. Gus was hauled if for questioning by Kit, who was demanding answers, only three lads at a riverbank to spot a body floating in the water.
Craig approached Swain and Kit and announced that they’ve found Joel’s body. Kit went to break the news to Dee Dee and Lauren at the hospital while Lisa ended up revealing the news to people in the Rovers. Kit was later seen calling back at the hospital and told Lauren that the post-mortem revealed that Joel was dead before he entered the river, so they’re now looking at a murder investigation.
Now, Corrie has said the hunt for a murderer is on in a huge Weatherfield whodunnit. Over the coming weeks a series of exhilarating flashbacks will help viewers piece the puzzle together as we follow the police trying to solve one of the street’s biggest ever Whodunnits.
Officially the detective now leading the case, Kit begins his investigation by informing both Lauren and Dee-Dee, the two women whose lives Joel threatened to destroy with his abuse and lies, of his murder.
But as the mystery deepens these stylised flashbacks will reveal just how many people are in the frame as we revisit the night of September 27th when Joel went missing, he was not a well liked man. As a number of Coronation Street favourites fall under suspicion, fans will see the suspects highlighted on our very own crime wall photo.
The first to be revealed this week are Ronnie, uncle of Joel’s wronged fiance Dee-Dee, and Mason Radcliffe, the bad boy bully from the wrong side of town who has seemingly been turning his life around in recent weeks.
In Wednesday’s episode (October 16), viewers will watch the first climactic flashback as we return to that fateful night when Joel disappeared and watch events unfold.
As the evidence mounts, we’ll see Kit pulled in all directions, while Swain, who was made to take a step back from the case, sets about her own inquiries. But as the plot thickens with many more twists and turns to come, who was really responsible for Joel’s death and how long will it take Kit and Lisa to catch the killer?
