Coronation Street confirms change for Leanne as Rowan becomes worried

Rowan fears that he’s losing control over Leanne.

Coronation Street will feature a change for Leanne Battersby in upcoming scenes, causing cult leader Rowan Cunliffe to worry that he’s losing his influence over her.

In July, Leanne’s sister Toyah Battersby was diagnosed with germ-cell ovarian cancer, and was told that she would need to have a tumour surgically removed – and potentially chemotherapy.

This week, Leanne horrifies her partner Nick Tilsley when she refuses to support Toyah before she heads into hospital, having taken on Rowan’s callous suggestion that she “withdraw with love” from her sister.

In scenes that will air next week, Rowan continues to support Leanne’s decision to keep her distance from Toyah while she undergoes treatment, telling her that she needs to put herself before her family.

Still appalled by Leanne’s attitude, Nick goes to the hospital with Toyah instead.

When the consultant shares some news with Nick, he calls Leanne and informs her that Toyah has suffered some complications during treatment, urging her to come to the hospital immediately.

Meanwhile, Rowan is busy updating Leanne on Amy Barlow’s decision about getting involved with The Institute.

But when Leanne says that she doesn’t have time to talk about it right now because she needs to go and see Toyah, Rowan fears his influence over her is slipping.

Leanne heads to the hospital to see her sister, giving Toyah a hug as she lies in bed. But this may not be enough, as Nick is soon admitting to Toyah that he loves her.

He adds that he wants to tell Leanne the truth about his and Toyah’s new-found feelings for each other.

Will Toyah talk Nick out of coming clean to Leanne? And how far will Rowan go to regain his control over Leanne?

Leanne and Amy are currently both embroiled in The Institute’s new ‘resource centre’, with Rowan trying to persuade the pair to invest large sums of money in the development.

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 14.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
