Daniel Brocklebank has been supported by his real-life partner as he was awarded for his role in the show
Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has been supported by his real-life partner as he was awarded for his role in the show. The actor and his former co-star Peter Ash were recognised for their portrayal during the recent Motor Neurone Disease Storyline.
There were emotional scenes earlier this month as Peter was seen bowing out of the ITV soap after six years as Paul Foreman. The exit came 17 months after his character was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in a hard-hitting storyline Corrie worked on with the help of the MND Association.
But in a heartbreaking twist, Paul’s husband Billy Mayhew, played by Daniel, didn’t make it in time to say goodbye to Paul and be with him in his final moments, something which has since been eating away at the archdeacon.
Now, Daniel and Peter have picked up the Best Partnership gong at the 2024 Inside Soap Awards. Corrie scooped the coveted Best Soap accolade at the ceremony, held at London’s Salsa Temple on Monday night (September 30), as well as the Best Actor prize for Peter and Best Storyline for the MND storyline.
Following confirmation of the news, Daniel’s partner Jordan Coulthard heaped praise on his other half and his former on-screen husband. Sharing Inside Soap’s update to his Instagram Story, Jordan said:” Very proud partner moment! They both absolutely deserved to have won!”
He continued: “What a beautiful way to finish off such an important and raw storyline. I don’t know about anyone else, but Coronation Street really opened my eyes and educated me as to what MND is and without this storyline, i don’t feel as many conversations would have been had. I am beyond proud!”
Jordan then shared a second post and in response to Daniel and Peter’ Best Partnership’ award, “The two most deserving! Bravo gentlemen, bravo!” He added: “I wish everyone could see the work that these two do off-screen. Absolutely well and truly deserved!”
At the awards, which are run by the Inside Soap magazine, Corrie continued to pick up the silverware as Charlie Wrenshall won Best Young Performer for his role as Liam Connor, and Dame Maureen Lipman won Best Comic Performance for the fourth year in a row, for her role as Evelyn Plummer.
Elsewhere at the Inside Soap Awards 2024, Emmerdale’s Eden Taylor-Draper also landed a huge prize, winning Best Actress for her part as Belle King. There was further joy in the Dales as Emmerdale won Best Family for The Dingles, and Best Pet for Minnie Piper.
EastEnders won Best Showstopper for their dramatic The Six plot, which saw Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) kill Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) over the festive period. It was also a good night for Albert Square’s Panesar family as Balvinder Sopal scooped the Soap Superstar award for her portrayal of Suki Panesar, and her on-screen husband Navin Chowdhry (Nish Panesar) won the Best Villain gong.
BBC daytime soap ‘Doctors’ is to air for the final time this December after 24 years. And the show will bow out after landing the Outstanding Achievement accolade at this year’s bash.
