Cindy Beale left for dead in EastEnders Christmas Day shock as explosive whodunnit revealed

Cindy Beale is feared dead in EastEnders after she was brutally attacked in a new whodunnit on the BBC soap, following her showdown with the Beales and the Knights

There was a deadly twist on EastEnders on Christmas Day, as the second episode of the night saw Cindy Beale left for dead – but is she leaving the BBC soap?

Her fate remains up in the air as a brutal attack saw her lifeless on the ground in the closing moments of the latest episode. Cindy had more than one enemy, and several comments foreshadowed a grisly fate for her throughout the night.

Cindy’s affair with Junior Knight had just been rumbled via an audio clip, played out to the whole pub. Ian Beale was devastated to learn his partner was cheating on him and didn’t feel satisfied by him.

Her ex George Knight was horrified about her romance with his son Junior, and soon his comments made it clear he still seemed to love Cindy – leaving his partner Elaine Peacock seething. Junior meanwhile was disgusted after telling Cindy he loved her, as he found out she was using him as a bit of fun and that it was George she was actually in love with.

As the Beales and the Knights reeled from the events, soon the family members turned on each other. Lauren Branning, who had set the scene for Cindy’s downfall, faced the wrath of Cindy and her loved ones.

Her partner Peter Beale said her revenge against Cindy was “toxic”, as Lauren was reminded of the infamous time she exposed her father Max Branning’s affair with Stacey Slater via a DVD on Christmas Day 2007. Lauren was left outside in the cold once more, with the pregnant character tempted by pills in the aftermath amid her painkiller addiction.

Every character, including her daughters Anna and Gina and son Peter, turned on Cindy one by one. Cindy was desperate and begged Ian for another chance too, only for him to see right through it and kick her out of their home.

In fact he literally threw her out, sending her crashing against the floor. Moments earlier Cindy had quite the showdown with Elaine, Peter, Lauren, Gina, Junior, Anna and George, as well as mother-in-law Kathy Beale.

Claiming Ian was the man for her she spat venom at every one of them, leaving her kids in tears and Elaine fuming. She told them all she didn’t care about any of them and never wanted to see them again.

Her wish may now be granted as at the end of the episode as Cindy wandered through the Square with nowhere to go, someone took a deadly revenge. Someone, unknown, picked up a large metal spade and slammed it over Cindy’s head.

She fell to the ground lifeless and the episode ended there, but is Cindy dead? There were several hints throughout the episode to a possible demise, as Cindy spoke of never wanting to see her loved ones again, and hitting self-destruct.

More than that though, Kathy threatened to kill her, Lauren told her she was “done” and Elaine made sinister comments. Gina and Peter told her they were done with her, and Ian told her he wanted her out of his life adding: “Who cares if you live or die.” We also saw all of the suspects, including George, Ian, Junior and the others, looking angry clearly lining up the whodunnit.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
