This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Carla Connor (Alison King) was left terrified in recent Coronation Street scenes when her health took a turn for the worse.
The factory boss feared that she was once again suffering from psychosis when she began experiencing hallucinations, but it later transpired that her condition wasn’t related to her mental health.
Carla suffered a psychotic episode in 2019, after the factory roof collapsed killed her soon to be sister-in-law Rana Habeeb.
In 2023, she believed that it was happening again when serial killer Stephen Reid continually drugged her with LSD.
Familiar with the symptoms, Carla was terrified that she was having another psychotic episode in tonight’s episode, and good friend Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was also deeply concerned.
Having sent her home to rest, Roy later paid her a visit and was horrified to find her barely conscious on the floor of her flat.
Carla was rushed to hospital, where doctors revealed that she was suffering from sepsis from an infection in the wound on her head.
Viewers will remember that Carla was attacked during a break-in at the factory in November, and ended up hospitalised with a bleed on the brain.
As if the sepsis wasn’t bad enough, doctors grew worried about the condition of her kidney.
After suffering from kidney failure, Carla received a transplant from half-brother Aidan Connor in 2018.
With doctors running tests, Carla was left to wait to find out if her kidney had been damaged by the infection.
Understanding the severity of her condition, Carla was relieved when Roy explained that he had been unable to get in contact with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
Knowing that Lisa was still grieving the death of wife Becky, Carla made the heartbreaking decision to call time on their relationship, informing Roy that she was sure Lisa would run as soon as she learnt about Carla’s prognosis to stop herself getting hurt again anyway.
Though Roy argued that Lisa would care about Carla’s health, she informed him of her slip-up the previous night, and how Lisa had been unable to echo Carla’s sentiments that she was falling in love.
Roy urged Carla not to make any rash decisions, but it seemed that her mind was already made up.
When Lisa later phoned to find out where Carla was, she swiftly made up a story about being at the airport, having been invited to spend her birthday in Ireland with Michelle and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott).
Lisa was quick to question whether Carla’s sudden departure was down to the previous night, and Carla assured her that it wasn’t, before promising to get in contact the next day.
Is it really over for Carla and Lisa?
