Emmerdale spoilers follow for Monday’s (December 9) episode that is now available to view on ITVX. The episode in question will air on ITV1 on at 7:30pm.
Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) was on cloud nine as she listened to one of her favourite tracks during the latest offering of the ITV soap, delighted to be back home at Butler’s farm following her brain surgery.
Somewhere In My Heart by Aztec Camera played at full volume, much to the confusion of Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano), who returned home to find his mum bopping along to the eighties classic.
Moira explained that the song in question is ‘very special’ to her and husband Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), who had departed hours earlier to take on a job in Dudley.
On the outskirts of the village, however, Cain was seen listening to the same track on the radio, holding his head in his hand.
Fed up, he switched off the radio and texted Moira, telling her that he won’t be home until morning, struggling with the guilt of cheating on her with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly).
But just what is it about the Aztec Camera banger that left Cain wracked with guilt?
As Moira stated, the song holds a special meaning for both he and Moira, which was first discussed all the way back in 2020 during one of the lockdown episodes of the ITV soap.
At the time, Cain was going through a divorce from Moira, who had cheated on him with Nate Robinson (Jurrell Carter).
But trapped in Mill Cottage during the Coronavirus pandemic, the hard-man couldn’t stop thinking about his one true love, wondering if it was possible that he could forgive her for what she did.
In a bid to get hime to open up about his feelings, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) – who lived with him during the pandemic – decided to play Somewhere In My Heart on his phone, knowing it would evoke a strong reaction.
Cain fought tears and ordered Aaron to cull the track, explaining that it was ‘one of Moira’s favourites’. What’s more, it was the first song on a mixtape of classics he’d made for Moira when they were together.
The cassette tape was on the kitchen counter during lockdown and – after refusing to play it for the entirety of his stay at Mill Cottage – Cain succumbed one night towards the end of the first lockdown, smiling to himself as Somewhere In My Heart played.
Cain and Moira would ultimately go on to reconcile and were arguably stronger than ever – that is, until Cain decided to sleep with Ruby during Moira’s operation last month.
The guilt of what he’s done is eating him up and it seems that the Aztec Camera classic simply serves as a reminder of what he’s done.
The first time the song was discussed, Cain was desperately trying his best to forgive Moira for her betrayal. But the question is: will Moira be able to forgive Cain for his?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.
