EastEnders viewers can now vote on who Denise Fox, played by Diane Parish, ends up with on the BBC soap ahead of tomorrow’s live episode – however some fans aren’t impressed
The fate of Denise’s love life is now in the hands of EastEnders fans, with viewers getting the chance to vote whether she ends up with her husband Jack Branning or her love Ravi Gulati.
However, some fans have branded the idea as “the worst storyline in EastEnders history” after watching Wednesday night’s dramatic episode of the BBC soap.
Tonight’s hour-long special picked up with the residents of Walford as they tried to rescue a number of people from the Queen Vic as it went up in flames. Reiss Colwell’s car rammed into the pub and caused it to explode after Cindy Beale pushed her husband Ian in front of the car, causing it to swerve into the building.
In the aftermath, Martin Fowler became trapped under a metal beam, with his fate hanging in the balance, while Reiss was killed by a falling bathtub. Ahead of tomorrow’s live special, fans are being asked to vote on whether Denise Fox should choose to be with her husband Jack or lover Ravi – however, some fans took to social media to complain that the storyline is “boring” in comparison to the ongoing Queen Vic disaster.
“Easily the worst storyline in eastenders history,” one viewer wrote on X. “Denise’s love life doesn’t interest most normal humans.” While another wrote: “Was hoping it would be more of ‘who does she chose to save from dying’ situation but no,” alongside a yawning emoji.
A third tweeted: “I would rather vote for who survives the wreckage rather than who Denise ends up with,” with a laughing emoji. A fourth wrote: “Who decided on this voting idea? Martins life is hanging on the line. Sonia’s about to have her baby. Phil was just about to end his life. And you want me to vote who gets to sleep with Denise next? #EastEnders.”

However, some viewers were excited to have their say, with one writing: “Me on my way to vote Ravi as soon as that vote opened.” Another said: “Vote cast. If Jack doesn’t win, it’s clearly been a miscount….#EastEnders.”
Wednesday night’s episode featured a surprise cameo from Anita Dobson, who returned to the soap as Angie Watts after decades away. The iconic character returned as a near-death hallucination for her daughter Sharon, who was losing consciousness after being trapped in the Queen Vic explosion.
“You’re not giving up on us, are you Sharon?” Angie asked her. “Hello, darling! I’ve missed you so much.” As Sharon tells her that she’s cold, Angie replied: “I know baby and I wish I could just put my arms round you and give you a great big hug but it’s not time for us to be together yet darling.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday from 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
