EastEnders viewers were left overjoyed as the soap is set to make history with a storyline involving Eve and Suki.

EastEnders is set to make soap history, much to the delight of fans.

This week in Walford, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) was visited by an old friend and first love Ayesha (Laila Rouass), who arrived in Walford after Suki’s wicked ex-husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry) orchestrated the reunion.

In a bid for revenge, Nish sowed seeds of doubt in the mind of Suki’s partner Eve Unwin (Heather Peace), suggesting that Ayesha could jeopardise their relationship. The next day, Eve felt sidelined as Suki and Ayesha reconnected.

She shared her concerns with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), who advised her to disregard Nish’s manipulations. Later in the episode, Eve proposed to Suki in emotional scenes but, after receiving no response, a humiliated Eve left and spent the night elsewhere.

Suki attempted to contact Eve without success. Later, Suki had a candid conversation with Ayesha, who urged Suki not to let Eve slip away.

Decided, Suki went to the Vic to make a grand gesture to Eve. In heartwarming scenes, Suki asked Eve to marry her, and Eve was thrilled to accept, reports the Daily Star.

Furthermore, if Suki and Eve manage to have a successful wedding, it would be a first for soaps. There has never been a successful lesbian wedding on soaps before, with one character typically meeting an untimely end.

Soap fans have been swift to voice their excitement over Suki and Eve’s engagement news, with a social media user on X, previously known as Twitter, asking: “Eastenders about to pull off the first successful lesbian UK soap wedding?”

Another enthusiast chimed in: “It’s about time, the first ever lesbian wedding in a soap by such an amazing couple that deserve happiness.”

Meanwhile, another remarked enthusiastically: “I can’t lie. I would love this! Even better if it’s done live! A first live successful lesbian UK soap wedding. Yes please!”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
