Dedicated to helping Maya out of her money woes, Harvey Monroe has been working himself to the bone in recent EastEnders scenes, raising concerns for his health among fans.
Harvey Monroe is relentlessly working in a bid to help a cash-strapped Maya but EastEnders viewers are convinced it could all take a toll on his health.
The Walford cabbie, portrayed by Ross Boatman, has been romantically linked to Jean Slater since he first arrived in the Square but Maya (played by Doctors actress Bharti Patel) and her budding friendship with him sparked fears the couple could encounter a rough patch.
But when she was revealed to be the wife of one of his son Aaron’s victims, Harvey felt obliged to help Maya in her financial woes and has been working himself to the point of falling asleep in his taxi during this Tuesday’s (August 20, 2024) trip to Albert Square – with baby Charli Slater in the back passenger seat.

Later on, a panicked and fuming Jack Branning (played by Scott Maslen) woke Harvey in a fury, urging Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) to pull Charli out of the scorching vehicle, which happened to have its windows closed. Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) rushed her baby daughter to hospital and lashed out at a concerned Harvey after finding out Charli, who had been given the all-clear, could have died if she’d remained in the vehicle for ten more minutes.
But over on X, otherwise known as Twitter, many viewers of the London-based drama were more concerned for Harvey as, moments prior, he’d been caught asleep in the Square by his girlfriend Jean, after spending a night away from home. Fans are convinced he could face a horrific health ordeal.
“Harvey is very exhausted and fatigued working all the time”, a BBC One viewer pointed out, as a second added: “Harvey is exhausted trying to earn extra money for Maya. He’s going to make himself ill or worse cause an accident.”
A third urged the character to lay his cards on the table: “Harvey needs to be honest with Jean about his arrangement with Maya.” Another continued: “I’m being so sincere is Harvey narcoleptic? What is all this sleeping about and am I supposed to care”, while a fourth chimed in: “Harvey is going to have a heart attack.”
Another soap watcher concluded: “Really curious what’s going on with Harvey falling asleep with Charli in the car think there is something going on with him.” Things also came to a head for both Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) and his fiancee Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) as the police paid them a visit to grill them over Debbie’s death, which the accountant is responsible for, unbeknownst to his soon-to-be wife.
While Reiss got wind of the authorities’ visit through Martin Fowler (James Bye), his guilty conscience caught up with him and Sonia was horrified when she found him in the midst of a panic attack.
Reiss managed to throw her off the scent but the truth eventually emerged when detectives and police officers cornered them at The Queen Vic, just as they geared up to celebrate their engagement – and Sonia’s pregnancy, confirmed moments earlier.
Before long, Reiss and Sonia find out they are being arrested, suspected to have murdered Debbie together, and they’re carted away in front of their gobsmacked pals.
While viewers will have to wait and see what’s ahead for both Sonia and Reiss, Natalie Cassidy has been tipped to take a break from filming the long-running soap as she embarks on a new project.
The actress, 41, was spotted filming in Norwich this Monday according to reports, as she’s due to front a four-part consumer show for Channel 4 called What’s the Big Deal?, during which she will investigate the popularity of trending household items.
