Coronation Street fans have been left gobsmacked after they heard Alison King’s real voice for the first time. The actress has played Carla Connor since 2006
Corrie fans were left utterly flabbergasted after they got an earful of Alison King’s actual voice for the very first time.
Rocketing to fame as the formidable Carla Connor on the much-loved ITV soap, Alison first graced our screens in 2006. Since then, she’s become a ‘true’ icon as the Weatherfield factory boss, securing her spot as a fan favourite.
Her character has been through the wringer with juicy plots galore, from scandalous love affairs to grappling with addiction; Carla’s life has been anything but dull. Alison’s portrayal hasn’t gone unnoticed either, bagging the Best Actress gong at the 2012 British Soap Awards for her harrowing performance in a rape storyline.
Lately, Carla’s been getting cosy with DS Lisa Swain (played by Vicky Myers), and their blossoming romance has been a hit with the audience, finally becoming official over the festive season, reports Lancs Live.
But it’s off-screen where fans have been truly taken aback, as they heard the real Alison King speak for the first time. A gobsmacked viewer posted alongside an interview clip: “The cognitive dissonance of hearing Ali King’s real voice and accent, and not her Carla Connor voice and accent…….I’m sat here in SHOCK.”
The sentiment was echoed across the board, with another fan exclaiming: “Blimey she sounds very different.” Another added: “I just LOVE her real accent, she sounds so posh and loads less nasally, how she keeps Carla’s accent up is Insane!”
Fans are absolutely gobsmacked, with one tweeting in disbelief: “I will never get over this! ” Another followed up with a real talk moment, sharing: “I know it is a shock but imma level with you guys. Almost everyone in #corrie does NOT have a Northern accent.”
Carla is currently at the centre of a storm on Coronation Street. Her love life seemed to be going swimmingly with Lisa, but this week took a dark turn as Carla found herself in hospital diagnosed with sepsis.
As if that wasnt enough drama for Carla, her brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) is set to make a bombshell comeback. Corries new head honcho Kate Brooks has spilled the beans on Rob’s return, saying: “Rob comes back and causes a lot of trouble for Carla and Lisa.”
Kate went on to reveal: “Just when Carla and Lisa think it’s safe for them to sit down and watch Netflix, Rob Donovan comes along and kind of scuppers all of that.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
