Coronation Street fans ‘confirm’ who started Platt house fire – and it’s not David or Leanne

Fans think they know who really started the blaze that has destroyed No.8 Coronation Street

Coronation Street fans think they know who started the first that has destroyed the Platt family home – and it’s not anyone who has come under suspicion so far.

There have been shocking scenes in the ITV soap this week as a blaze was started in No.8 Coronation Street by a mysterious hooded figure, destroying not just bricks and mortar. As fans know, David Platt has become an enemy of gangster Harvey Gaskell after taking money which belonged to him.

Desperate to buy his mum Gail’s house as she prepared to leave the street, he took the cash that was offered to his sister Sarah Platt by Harvey’s brother Damon Hay after Bethany’s serious health scare.

So Shona was quick to blame Harvey for the inferno that engulfed the Platts’ beloved family home as the family were supposed to be gathering at the Bistro for Sarah’s birthday celebrations.

Corrie fans saw a soaked rag was posted through the door of No.8, along with some lit matches. Shona was soon alerted to the fire as it quickly took hold and, fearing Lily was in the house, she and Max headed inside with Nick Tilsley, who was left rescuing an unconscious Toyah Habeeb, who had been attacked by Abi Webster, and bringing her out onto the street.

Shona and Max were then left trapped inside and while Shona managed to escape, with a horrified David waiting on the other side, Max was seemingly left stuck as the house exploded. He was later pulled from the burning property and was rushed to hospital where he was placed in a coma.

DC Kit Green is now on the hunt for the arsonist who set fire to the house, and several locals are already in the frame – including David himself after his sister Sarah discovered he’d been searching for information on fires and insurance fraud.

After receiving a visit from David’s dodgy former prison mate Andy Garland, Sarah grew even more suspicious of her sibling, and soon shared her concerns with older brother Nick Tilsley. They confronted David and not satisfied with his response, Nick handed him into the police.

Meanwhile, Abi was being questioned as Toyah gave a statement confirming she’d been hurt by her, which Abi didn’t deny. But things got too much for the mechanic as she was accused of starting the fire, leading her to open up about her fragile mental health following the death of Mason Radcliffe.

Also during the episode, Leanne Battersby revealed to Steve McDonald that she couldn’t remember where she’d been on the night of the fire, after throwing a bottle of vodka at No.8 as Toyah was inside. She explained that the next thing she knew, she was waking up in Victoria Gardens with a box of matches in her pocket.

Steve was furious after giving Leanne a false alibi and he encouraged her to talk to the police. But as she arrived at the station, she backed out as she heard Nick telling Kit he thinks David is responsible for the blaze. Then, at the end of the episode, as David was placed under arrest for arson, Max stirred for the first time with Shona by his side.

Corrie fans have now shared their thoughts on who is responsible – and it’s not David or Leanne. @lucyywxo said: “I think Max may’ve done it..” @bethltrew replied: “Him and Shona left to pick up Sarah’s birthday cake. So I’m thinking he did it then..?”

@dawnevans1560 commented: “It could have been Max, someone needs to find the jacket that they were wearing on the garage CCTV.” @caolan.quinn.58 shared: “It’s max trying to help David and will go to prison for arson that’s how he leaves.”

@robinjeanx wrote: “I reckon it could have been max tbf after overhearing david talking the other day thats why he ran into the house thinking he’d accidentally left lilly there.” @_Rimal asked: “Anyone else think Max & Shona started the fire as they knew David was considering it and they thought everyone was at the bistro. #Corrie.” @SouthernCazza1 added: “So Max started the fire then after all of that. That’s Max’s hoody. He clearly thought that no-one would be in and it would help David out #Corrie.”
