EastEnders fans in ‘disbelief’ over Sonia Fowler’s deadly blunder

Former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has played Sonia Fowler on and off for over 25 years and fans are convinced her character is in danger

EastEnders viewers are concerned for Sonia Fowler (played by Natalie Cassidy) after she made a significant error on the episode aired on Wednesday evening (February 5). Sonia, who was recently acquitted of the murder of Debbie Colwell (Jenny Meier) and released from prison, is pregnant.

The real culprit of the crime is her partner Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman). However, o secure Sonia’s release, her sister Bianca (Patsy Palmer) agreed to confess to the murder on tape.

Since November, Bianca has been held captive by Reiss, who discovered she knew he had killed his wife. Back in Walford, Sonia is desperate to hear Bianca’s confession, refusing to believe her sister could commit such a horrific crime.

In the latest episode, Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), a police officer, managed to obtain a copy of the confession tape and gave it to his niece Sonia. They agreed she would keep it secret from Reiss.

However, instead of viewing the footage privately, Sonia played it in her living room, where she was interrupted by an angry Reiss.

This scene prompted a reaction from EastEnders fans on social media, who are now worried for Sonia’s safety and criticised her mistake, reports Plymouth Live.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer expressed their disbelief: “So Sonia gets hold of Bianca’s confession and says she doesn’t want [Reiss] to know so she decides to watch it in their living room with him there. #Eastenders.”

Another fan pointed out the obvious flaw: “#EastEnders I knew it. Knew Sonia would be stupid and watch the video with Reiss still in the house. Of course he was gonna catch her.”

A third added their voice to the criticism: “Ok but who wrote that scene. Sonia WHY would you watch that with [Reiss] inches away YOU IDIOTTTT #eastenders.”

One frustrated fan couldn’t hide their exasperation: “Sonia is just dumb, why do that! #EastEnders”, while another remarked on the lack of discretion: “Not Sonia trying to watch the video with the door open and Reiss literally in the room next door #eastenders.”

EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer
