Max and Toyah were hospitalised after the Platt’s house fire
The fallout from a fire that devastated the Platts’ home and left two characters in hospital continued on Coronation Street tonight, as the ITV soap offered new clues about the arsonist’s true identity. Fans were left on the edge of their seats during Monday’s (February 4) episode as the Platt family home was engulfed in flames.
While trying to enjoy Sarah’s birthday party at the Bistro, a petrol soaked rag was pushed through the letterbox at number eight. The fire left Max and Toyah hospitalised and fighting for their lives.
In last night’s intense scenes, Kit arrived at the hospital to tell Shona and David the fire had been caused deliberately, and the search for the arsonist was underway. Everyone in Weatherfield found themselves under suspicion, desperately trying to clear their names with the authorities.
David suggested Logan Ratcliffe was responsible, but Leanne and Abi’s names also continued to circle around Weatherfield. On Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap, Abi was questioned at the police station by Kit.
Later on at the garage, Kevin found some CCTV footage which he hoped proved Abi innocent. Meanwhile, Leanne revealed she lied to Steve about her alibi.
She said she was visiting Oliver’s grave when the Platt’s house was set on fire. But, a concerned Leanne said she actually couldn’t remember what she was doing that night because she was drunk. She later said she found a box of matches in her pocket, which left her wondering if she really did start the fire.
Elsewhere, Sarah discovered David had been researching arson and house insurance on his phone. He tried to convince her he didn’t actually go through with his plan, but Sarah didn’t believe a word of it. Sarah opened up to Nick, who immediately confronted David. Convinced the fire was David’s fault, Nick said to his brother: “I could kill you” for what he did his own family.
He took matters into his own hands as the whole Platt family started to turn against David. Nick reported David to the police, who was taken in to be questioned. However, while at the hospital, David opened up to Shona about his whereabouts when the fire started. He said he was actually driving a getaway car elsewhere.
Viewers took to social media to make their own predictions, one said: “Never thought there would be that many suspects for the Platts house fire”, while another said: “I definitely think Max did it.”
More added to the conversation on X: “Anyone else think Max and Shona started the fire as they knew David was considering it and they thought everyone was at the bistro.”
Another fan suggested: “I reckon Seb’s ghost possessed Abi and made her start the fire.” Next week, Coronation Street spoilers show Leanne will be questioned, and Nick will apologise to David for reporting him to the police.
Coronation Street will continue on Monday at 8pm on ITV1.
