Is Coronation Street on tonight amid ITV schedule shake-up?

Coronation Street has been cancelled this evening in a huge schedule shake-up

Coronation Street fans are in for a bit of disappointment tonight (Friday 31 January) as there’s a massive switch-up in the TV listings, leading to the beloved ITV soap being dropped.

Normally fans would settle down at 8pm for an hour-long trip to Weatherfield, but due to the Six Nations Live dominating screens from 7:30pm until 10:35pm, they’ll have to go without. This sports coverage has also nudged Emmerdale into an earlier slot, moving it to 7pm instead of its usual 7:30pm.

Fans have not held back their frustration, flooding Twitter, now X, with their dismay. One viewer lamented: “it’s Friday and we don’t have corrie today… I need it back already #Corrie”, while another complained: “I notice #Corrie is only on twice next week coz of the b****y rugby on Friday night” to which a third suggested: “Sport should be on ITV2 or ITV3!”

This scheduling shake-up comes as Coronation Street teases a dramatic turn of events that could see fans bidding farewell to some of their favourite characters. It’s been hinted that next week’s episodes will bring heartache and danger, as a deadly explosion threatens to tear through the Platts’ household, promising a storyline that could change everything for David, Shona, and their loved ones, reports Lancs Live.

However, in a shocking turn of events, it’s revealed that the fire was actually an act of arson. Suddenly, everyone on the cobbles is under suspicion as they scramble to prove their innocence to the police. But who is the mysterious figure seen pushing a petrol-soaked rag through the letterbox of number 8?

The dramatic scenes, set to air on Monday 3 February, show residents trapped inside with no sign of Toyah Battersby or the children. This prompts Nick Tilsley, Shona and Max Turner to brave the flames. Will they all survive as a massive explosion shakes the street?

This development follows actor Paddy Bever, who plays Max, announcing his departure from the popular ITV soap. Having already filmed his final scenes, could his character meet a fiery end?

Coronation Street is on ITV1 at 8pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on ITV X and STV.
