Coronation Street star Sydney Martin has been flooded with support as she shared the shocking reaction to her role in the long-running show.

The actress, from Rossendale, made her debut in the ITV soap last year as Betsy Swain. Back in July, the character was revealed as the previously unseen daughter of DS Lisa Swain having initially been introduced as a friend of Sabrina Adetiba.

The character has since managed to ruffle feathers in Weatherfield, getting involved with groomer Joel Deering and school bully Mason Radcliffe. But it appers Betsy may be willing to turn things around, particularly after the loss of Mason after he was stabbed to death by his own brothers while trying to turn his life around.

Following the scenes, in which Betsy discovered her boyfriend bleeding in the precinct playground as they waited for paramedics before she was later told he didn’t make it, Sydney was left ‘overwhelmed’ by the response as she was flooded with praise for her performance in the scenes.

However, the soap star has joined in on a TikTok trend that has revealed the reaction to her character isn’t always as positive. The ‘you’re so funny’ trend is sees TikTok users making videos exposing the traumatic anecdotes that made them the hilarious person they are today.

Alongside a photo of herself, Sydney wrote: “‘You’re so funny.’ Thanks, middle-aged mums bully me on Twitter n Facebook.” She then captioned the post: “Gotta laugh or you’ll cry, so much love for you guys thooo.”
