Fans have been begging for this storyline to come back for years.
There’s been one particular storyline Home and Away fans have been missing over the years and have been quite vocal about, and it looks like the show has been listening. Recently fans spotted some scenes being filmed that could hint towards a nostalgic plot point finally returning.

If you don’t already know this Home and Away fans can be quite the sneaky little sleuths, often catching the stars of the show filming scenes six months in advance.
Recently, someone spotted Roo filming scenes with a younger character, which would make him the first younger kid or teen the Bay has seen for quite some time.
“Newcomer young boy who was at filming today (21/01/25). He was filming with Roo and looks like it could be Roo’s foster kid! We see this air in 5/6 months,” one person posted in a popular Home and Away Facebook group.
“He was also filming with Roo last week too. 14/15th of January, I was there when he was filming,” another person shared, while someone said, “Glad to see kids back on the show!”
Is Summer Bay High set to return?
“Poor kid he will be the only child in Summer Bay,” someone else quipped, while others theorised he was unlikely to be a full-time character and maybe filming during the actor’s school holidays.
Home and Away fans have been complaining for some time about the demise of Summer Bay High and the fact the show has no kids or teens anymore, with the show heavily centred around foster kids and Summer Bay High in the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s.
“I don’t see them keeping this storyline going for too long,” one fan theorised. “I believe they are only doing it now cause school kids are on holidays and it’s hard to get young kids to film when they have school.”
“That makes sense, probably a temporary ’emergency’ foster care situation storyline,” another added.
Home and Away fans united with common complaint: ‘It’s a shame’
If you grew up watching Home and Away in the ’00s, you’ll remember a few important things: captivating storylines like the Summer Bay stalker, icons like Bec Cartwright and Tammin Sursok releasing music, confusing storylines around psychic twins, and of course, Summer Bay High. The school was a HUGE part of Home and Away, whether it revolved around Sally’s teaching, principal Donald Fisher, or all the teens and their entangled love webs.
If you’re watching Home and Away now, well, you know that the school hasn’t appeared for years. Teens no longer exist in Summer Bay, or if they do, apparently, they don’t have to go to school anymore. Long gone are the iconic uniforms, school stabbings, and random teen drama and fans have been united in complaining about the lack of school, teens, and kids for some time.
Will Summer Bay High be in Hime and Away again?
It’s a question that often comes up in Home and Away fan groups and live discussion threads and some moderators are getting a little fed up with it.
“We receive so many posts and comments about the school and when and if it’s coming back! So to answer the question NO it’s not coming back those days are gone! The show has moved on,” one person posted in 2024.
But still, knowing the school isn’t coming back hasn’t quenched the fans’ yearning for the good old days.
“It’s not just the school, there’s no young people at all!” one person complained. “The original concept with the foster carer family was genius, it ensured a revolving door of new young talent. People will still miss it.”
“It’s a shame,” another agreed. “It had family appeal to it then… but I know it is now targeted to the adult population. Gotta move with the flow.”
“Now it’s a cop show/hospital ED show,” someone else commented, with one person saying, “All they do is drink and jump into bed, nobody works, taken a turn for the worse”.
IDK, that life doesn’t sound half bad to me.
