Lauren Bolton faces trial for the murder of Joel Deering

Coronation Street fans have claimed they were shocked by the lies told in court as Lauren Bolton faces trial for the murder of Joel Deering.

As fans of the ITV soap know, Weatherfield’s biggest-ever whodunnit was seen coming to a dramatic end back in November as Joel’s killer was revealed – and it was a joint effort to off the dastardly solicitor.

Joel initially disappeared and it was assumed he had died of an apparent suicide, but when is body washed up in front of a bunch of teens by a river, the police soon discovered that someone had in fact murdered Joel.

It was confirmed he’d been killed with a heavy weapon before entering the water and several Weatherfield residents were put in the frame – Dee-Dee, her father Ed, her uncle Ronnie, Mason Radcliffe, Lisa, Carla Connor, DC Kit Green and finally Max Turner and Lauren.

It was then revealed that in an eventful night for Joel, after Ronnie and Ed went after him with a crowbar, he was attacked by scorned ex Dee-Dee, threatened by Kit and pushed into the river by Max. But not before Lauren had delivered the killer blow amidst their train track confrontation.

Max later confessed to the murder, until Shona and David Platt discovered Max was covering for Lauren and shopped her to the police where she pleaded self defence.

During Monday night’s (January 20) Corrie, Lauren left the prison’s mother and baby unit for court as she and her friends prepared to take to the stand. Roy Cropper was first up and he gave Lauren a glowing character reference. But the defence tried to twist his words of praise, reminding Roy that Lauren had failed to speak out when he was wrongly accused of her murder during her disappearance.

Roy tried to turn things around and ultimately told the court that Lauren is a good person who has been mistreated but was interrupted by Brie who claimed she was attacked by Lauren in the mother and baby unit, leaving her with her arm in a sling. But some Corrie fans flocked to social media to accuse Roy of lying as they didn’t agree with his defence of Lauren.

@LunaLocoJewels asked: “How many laurens does roy know? He’s clearly got the wrong one #Corrie.” @THEJohnMcNee said: “Roy Cropper LYING in court!? I never thought I’d see the day! #corrie.” @miss1katy replied: “Haha!! Even though Roy likes Lauren and wants to believe its true…how can he think its actually think its facts that Lauren was like that?? She was often so rude and really uninterested in the job plus definitely nearly always late and cant believe she kept that Cafe job for so.”

Others, however, were looking out for Roy. @MitchellWebb85 commented: “Oh poor Roy #Corrie.” @EnfieldGarry wrote: “Oh leave Roy’s arrest out of this! #Corrie.” @FillsWhales added: “Leave Roy alone! #corrie.”
