The murderer has wormed his way back into Carla Connor’s life with the offer of being her kidney donor

Coronation Street fans think they have worked out how Rob Donovan will target Betsy Swain, as they’re sure he plans to escape from prison.

The murderer has only been back on the scene for a week, but he’s already causing problems for his existing family on the cobbles. As fans of the ITV soap know, Rob was put behind bars for the 2017 murder of Tina McIntyre.

But after Carla Connor’s health took a turn for the worse at the start of the year, Bobby Crawford was seen kickstarting a train of events that has now brought his dad, Rob, back into Carla’s life after several years.

Bobby secretly visited his dad in the hope he’d be willing to help Carla and get tested and he’d be a match and donate a kidney to his older sibling – after she was told she’d need a kidney transplant. However, his dad was less than welcoming and open to what Bobby had to say, as he accused him of abandoning him and listened to Carla about what really happened with Tina.

Rob later called Bobby and revealed he’d had a change of heart and confirmed that he was willing to consider being a donor for his sister. Then, earlier this week, Carla prepared for a procedure, in which a tube would be fitted so she could have dialysis at home, Bobby again sloped off and paid his dad another visit in prison.

Rob claimed that he wanted to help his sister and make amends for the past after finding religion during his time behind bars but their conversation was interrupted when new inmate Matty Radcliffe caused a scene in the jail’s visiting room, pulling out a knife and taking a female prison guard in his arms.

The hostage situation was set up by Rob in a bid to get Bobby to see he is changed man. And it worked with Bobby convincing Carla to pay her younger brother a visit. Despite his offer, Carla told Rob that she doesn’t trust him and thinks “he’s up to something”. Once back at the hospital, Carla told Lisa and Bobby she still “doesn’t buy” Rob’s act, but said if he’s really serious about giving her a kidney then she won’t stop him from doing the test to see if he’s compatible.

During Friday night’s (January 17) Corrie, fans saw Carla discover that she’d have to go private if she wanted her jailed brother to be her donor. Due to the costs involved with keeping a prisoner in hospital, the transplant was likely to cost £100,000 in total.

Carla ended up confronting Jenny Connor and Daisy Midgeley as she reminded them of the cash stolen by late serial killer Stephen Reid, which they then took after his death. The Underworld boss informed them that it was time to either pay their debt in full or face the music with the police.

Later, there was some joy as Betsy Swain offered to lend Carla £50,000 – half of what she needed – from the money that her late mum Becky left her in her will. And now Corrie fans are more convinced that Rob will target Besty in a plan to break free from behind bars while in hospital helping Carla with her transplant.

@TVMusings22 posted: “Maybe Daisy and Jenny will do a fundraiser to raise the cash. They wont sell the pub – both to selfish even tho that’s Carla’s pub now in theory! I’d say fundraiser and then Carla will pay some she must have some cash flow and then Betsy adds hers, then Rob steals it#corrie.”

It comes after fans predicted Rob’s escape plan. @Bobbyfet21 commented: “#Corrie my guess is that Rob is pushing Carla to take his kidney. Not out of love for his sister but he’s going to try & escape from prison once in hospital.”
