EastEnders viewers ‘work out’ what Peter Beale’s hiding in Cindy ‘twist’

EastEnders aired some worrying scenes as Lauren Branning confided in Peter Beale about the night Cindy Beale was attacked, but something left fans sure of a twist

It was clear Peter Beale was guilty of something on EastEnders on Wednesday night.

Viewers now think they know exactly what he’s hiding, and it could be bad news for the Beale family and his pregnant partner Lauren Branning. He was acting rather suspiciously in the latest episode amid Lauren fearing she was the one who attacked and nearly killed Cindy Beale on Christmas Day.

Lauren was arrested this week after being accused by Cindy, with it soon emerging Lauren had come across her lifeless body after the attack and left her there. Lauren explained she’d taken some pills prior to the attack, and now she’s having memory trouble.

She can’t remember her movements post-drug use but has been having flashbacks to certain moments. After recalling seeing Cindy on the ground and turning her over, the latest flash was of her having blood on her hands and wiping them on a scarf, or perhaps finding a bloodied scarf.

She is unsure on this one, but the memory was enough to make Peter panic. Something she said about the scarf though sparked alarm bells with viewers, and left them speculating he might have been the one who really attacked Cindy.

Lauren pointed out their son Louie had got them both the same scarf for Christmas. She said: “I can remember something else, I’ve got this image, me with blood all over my hands, and I’m wiping it on my scarf. Or I found a scarf that already had blood on it and I don’t know which one. You know the scarf that Louie got us both.”

Peter suddenly looked panicked and tried to deflect only for Lauren to claim the memory proved she attacked Cindy. She tried to go to the police about it but Peter urged her not to, and later in the episode we learned what he was up to.

He got out the very same scarf Lauren was referring to with it clearly having been hidden. He then burned it to get rid of any evidence. But was this his scarf or Lauren’s, and does it prove who attacked Cindy?

Viewers certainly think so, taking to X with the theory that Peter was the one who hurt his mum. One fan said: “See all signs are pointing to Peter,” as another added: “OMG PETER.”

A third viewer posted: “Peter?!!!!” as another wrote: “OMG I think it was Peter.” A further comment read: “So Peter attacked Cindy no wonder he so understanding to Lauren,” while another wondered: “It’s Louie that attacked her and Peter is protecting him?”

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
