Emmerdale aired more mystery on Tuesday as Wendy Posner found herself being blackmailed.

Earlier this week, Rhona Goskirk was devastated to see her past dredged up on the Hotten Courier website and used to cast aspersions about her being responsible for stepdaughter April Windsor’s disappearance.

On Tuesday’s episode, which was released at 7am on ITV X and which will air on ITV at 7:30pm, Rhona continued to question who could be responsible as she was supported by best friend Vanessa Woodfield. Later in the episode, Vanessa headed to the surgery, where she spoke about the article with Ella Forster to which a guilty-looking Wendy overheard the chat.

The trio decided to go for lunch but Wendy appeared distracted and upon spotting a journalist in The Woolpack pub, Wendy confronted the reporter. Wendy accused the reporter of twisting her words and taking her quotes out of context when it came to the Rhona article, revealing she was behind the scoop.

The village nurse said: “That wasn’t a quote, though, was it? Because you have twisted it when I thought we were just talking.” However, things took a dark turn when Wendy refused to give anymore information to which the reporter blackmailed her, threatening to expose Wendy’s own past misdemeanours unless she gave her something more interesting.

In scenes later this week, viewers will see Wendy trade information in on Ella’s killer past to cover her own misdemeanours. Soap watchers will recall that Ella killed her childhood best friend and served time in prison.

However, it has been teased that Wendy’s life and career looks set to implode amid the blackmail plot. It comes amid reports that actress Susan Cookson is leaving Emmerdale after six years of playing Wendy.

Longtime soap watchers will remember that Wendy was hiding a big secret back in 2021, where it was revealed that Wendy had failed to disclose criminal convictions when she applied to be a nurse. Therefore this means she’s isn’t a qualified nurse.

The truth came out when Wendy’s ex Russ returned to the village and held her hostage in a bid to get his hands on his grandson Harry’s inheritance after learning his mother had left a large sum for the youngster.

Despite Wendy not being a qualified nurse and her career a lie, doctor Liam Cavanagh agreed to keep her secret and she has been working at the village surgery. Could Wendy find her secret exposed?

Emmerdale airs every weekday at 19.30pm on ITV1, ITV X, STV and STV Player with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. It is also available each morning from 07.00am on ITVX.
