EastEnders fans couldn’t believe their eyes when they noticed how cheap sandwiches were at Stacey’s Baps, with many wondering how Stacey’s cafe hasn’t gone under
EastEnders fans were absolutely floored by the prices at Stacey’s Baps.
Viewers of the BBC soap simply could not get their heads around just how Stacey Slater can afford to live in East London when her prices at Stacey’s Baps are so staggeringly low. A bacon or sausage bap, for example, will only set you back £1.80 – beef burgers are the same price.
Stacey, played by Lacey Turner, has struggled with financial woes in the past. In 2022 she decided to set up her own cafe – Stacey’s Baps – with Eve Unwin.
But it’s hard to see how the single soap mum makes any kind of profit from the shop, especially with prices in London these days. Fans have discovered just how little she charges punters for food and drink at the shop.
If you’re parched for a tea or coffee, you’ll only have to hand over 50p. A bap with two items, such as bacon or egg, costs £2.20, and cheese or ham sandwiches cost just £1.40.
One fan, spotting the menu, asked “How she is still open with these prices in this economic climate is actually beyond me?”. Another wrote: “How can the market traders run households with that income?!”.
A third commented: “Doubt you could get a sausage bap for that price in London in the 90s, let alone 2024.” A fourth added: “No wonder the Slaters are tight for money.”
Stacey has been at the centre of a cost of living crisis storyline on the soap. She’s found it hard to make ends met following some bad luck and poor decisions.
For example, her food truck was robbed and her 12-year-old daughter Lily fell pregnant. When the biological father stopped paying child support, Stacey was unable to put food on the table.
In a bid to make money, she stold money from an office at her cleaning job and joined an adult site called Secret Cam, where she sold saucy snaps. She also found herself in £3k of debt from a nasty loan shark.
