Emmerdale car crash details revealed – and not everyone survives

A gripping new Emmerdale storyline featuring a terrifying car crash and a frozen lake is set to rock the village with several residents lives at risk, but who survives?

Emmerdale have revealed a sneak peek at what’s to come this February, promising a treacherous start to the year for some of the village’s beloved characters.

The gripping storyline features a terrifying car crash and a frozen lake, with multiple lives hanging in the balance. In a haunting flash-forward sequence, released on New Year’s Eve, ITV viewers glimpsed a desperate hand breaking through the icy gloom of the frozen water, grasping for survival. The questions on everyone’s lips are whose hand is it? and will they survive?

The spectacular series of stunts, filmed during night shoots before Christmas, required the expertise of a specialist special effects company to create a perilous frozen lake at the village’s edge.

Whilst the production team remains tight-lipped about which characters are involved in the dramatic scenes, Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw said: “With winter nights having drawn in, our audience are enjoying cosy nights indoors whilst our fantastic team at Emmerdale have been recording gripping drama to bring to their screens.

“The stunning backdrop of the village, from its rugged woodland to its wilder landscapes, set the perfect stage for what’s to come.

“I’m thrilled for our audience to experience these episodes as they unfold, taking them on a chilling—quite literally—and perilous journey across the frozen ice.”

Since the flashforward scene aired during the New Year’s Eve episode, fans have been predicting who could be trapped in the frozen lake.

Some fans think it could be Leyla Cavanag after actress Roxy Shahidi’s exit from the soap was rumoured earlier in 2024.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan said: “Am sure thats leyla in the water.” Another commented: “I think Leyla is in that water then she dies.” A third person wrote: “The hand at the end I think is Leyla.” Another posted: “Leyla the one in the ice? #Emmerdale.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
