Carla Connor also comes face-to-face with her brother Rob Donovan in the ITV soap while Daisy Midgeley’s secret is out
The new year drama continues in Coronation Street next week as the shock of Mason Radcliffe’s death continues to rattle those he’s left in Weatherfield.
Sean Tully tells Dylan Wilson that Matty Radcliffe’s been arrested and the police have found CCTV footage of the pair disposing of the knife. The residents are shocked when George Shuttleworth tells them Mason’s funeral will be basic with no family there, while Betsy leaves the precinct after finding Dylan drinking vodka.
Billy Mayhew later tells Sally Metcalfe he has had a change of heart and will do Mason’s funeral, But no one is aware of Logan watching them from across the street.
Later, at the police station, DC Kit Green explains to Dylan that he will be charged with possession of a bladed article. Dylan listens, petrified.
Elsewhere, Toyah Habeeb tells Kevin Webster that she’s deeply concerned for Abi and reckons she needs professional help. At No.13, Abi assures Kevin that she’s coping and doesn’t need any counselling, but once alone, she relives Mason’s last moments in her head, clearly tortured by her experience.
At No.13, Abi continues to dwell on Mason’s death before Debbie Webster calls at No.13 to find Kevin visibly stressed. When Kevin admits that he’s found a lump, Debbie’s shocked. Debbie urges Kevin to share his worries about his lump with Abi but when he finds his tearful wife in the memorial garden talking to her late son, Seb, he realises now is not the time to tell her his news.
Later, Abi is still having visions of Seb and unaware of what Kevin’s going through, she tells him Alfie has a cold so she is going to spend the day at home. Meanwhile, Kevin sees Dr Gaddas who refers him for tests. Unable to speak to Abi, an upset Kevin confides in Tim Metcalfe about his cancer worries before returning home and finding Abi asleep on the sofa with Alfie.
He takes Alfie upstairs but when Debbie lets herself in, Abi awakes up and accuses Debbie of taking Alfie. As Debbie leaves, Abi tries to defend her overreaction and Kevin blurts out that he has found a lump and may have testicular cancer, leaving Abi reeling in shock. In the café, Abi opens up to Roy Cropper and admits that she’s been suffering flashbacks of Seb’s final moments and hearing his voice so he urges her to talk to Kevin.
Meanwhile, after Ryan Connor says Carla Connor wouldn’t accept a kidney off Rob Donovan even if he offered, Bobby Crawford lies and says he is going out with Max Turner before heading off to see his dad again in prison.
As they chat, Rob tells him he has found religion and would like to donate a kidney to Carla if he is a match. But the conversation is cut short when across the visiting room Matty pulls out a knife and Bobby finds himself in the middle of a hostage situation.
Meanwhile, having heard about the ongoing hostage situation from DS Lisa Swain and discovered Bobby is visiting Rob, Carla tells a shocked Betsy Swain that her brother is a murderer. Will she really want his kidney? Later, Carla discovers that if she accepts Rob’s donation then she will have to go private due to the cost of keeping a prisoner in hospital. Ryan is shocked to discover that it will cost in the region of £100,000.
Also on the cobbles, Max visits Lauren Bolton to find her panicking about her trial. Max does his best to be positive, but Lauren can see straight through his platitudes. Lauren steals herself and tells Max that it’s best they call it a day as he’s got his whole life ahead of him while she’s looking at a 20 year stretch, leaving him devastated.
Later, as her trial starts, Lauren listens as the prosecution barrister addresses the court. The prosecution barrister describes Joel Derring’s death to the court and paints Lauren as a liar. As the prosecution and defence go back and forth Lauren, Bobby and Nina Lucas watch the proceedings with mixed emotions.
Having returned to the prison, Lauren’s barrister warns her that the case could go either way. In the prison, Brie approaches Lauren and purposely winds her up by suggesting her baby son, Frankie, would be better off without her.
And, when Daniel Osbourne is let down by the bakery making Bertie’s cake, Daisy Midgely comes to the rescue. Meanwhile, Bethany Platt tells Daisy she has been offered her dream job on a magazine in London and Daisy urges her to tell Daniel as he will be delighted for her and welcome the move.
Later, in the café, an excited Bethany tells Daniel about her job offer, how will he react? The next day, it’s Bertie’s birthday at Number 1, and with the party in full swing Bethany is growing increasingly jealous as Bertie spends his time sitting on Daisy’s knee. Meanwhile, Bertie has seen Cassie Plummer putting antihistamine into Ken’s tea and asks her what she is doing. She swears him to secrecy but little Bertie whispers the secret to Daisy who in turn tells Daniel.
When Bethany sees them whispering she is furious and knocks back the prosecco. The cake cutting turns into a farce with Daisy trying to help a drunken Bethany before suffering a nasty fall. Worried about the baby, she claims she has twisted her ankle and Daniel offers to run her to A&E.
Kit is already there and when the nurse confirms that it’s fine for Daisy to have an X-ray whilst pregnant, Daniel and Kit are stunned and Daisy’s heart sinks, knowing her secret is out. Meanwhile, when Daniel confronts Cassie about putting something in Ken’s drink she claims it was sweeteners, but he doesn’t believe her.
