EastEnders fans ‘work out’ who really attacked Cindy Beale after spotting ‘decoy’

EastEnders fans are convinced that they have worked out who attacked Cindy Beale as Elaine Peacock made a shocking discovery during Wednesday’s episode

EastEnders fans believe they’ve cracked the case of who attacked Cindy Beale (portrayed by Michelle Collins) on Christmas Day, following a revelation made by Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) on Tuesday (January 7).

Cindy was brutally assaulted with a shovel just moments after her affair with Junior (Micah Balfour) was revealed in a tense confrontation between the Beales and Knights. As she lies comatose in hospital, both families are busy pointing fingers, trying to identify the mystery assailant.

George Knight (Colin Salmon) has managed to secure an alibi from his vulnerable brother Kojo Asare (Dayo Koleosho), placing him away from the crime scene. On Monday, George paid a visit to his ex-wife in hospital, where he happened to run into his son Junior.

During his latest visit to Walford (January 7), ex-boxer George retrieved his blood-stained shirt from its hiding place, quickly concealing it again when his wife Elaine approached.

In an attempt to deflect suspicion, he fabricated a tale about marital concerns and confessed to visiting Cindy, asserting his right as the father of her children, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However, Elaine remained upset that George had referred to Cindy as ‘his wife’ during Christmas, and chastised him for only revealing his hospital visit before Junior could.

Eventually, Elaine allowed George to move back into The Vic after a stint at the Bed and Breakfast, but he was directed to stay in Linda’s (Kellie Bright) room while she was away in rehab.

Elaine’s moment of bliss was shattered when she discovered a bloodied shirt stashed away in a cupboard. George’s girls, Anna (Molly Rainford) and Gina (Francesca Henry), confirmed the dad had worn it on Christmas Day.

But EastEnders buffs aren’t buying it – they reckon the shirt is just a decoy, and George is actually protecting his brother Kojo, who took a tumble after busting Cindy’s secret romance.

Fans think the plot thickens with George egging on Kojo to pretend they were both in each other’s company the night Cindy was assaulted.

On X, an EastEnders enthusiast posted: “George covering for Kojo #EastEnders”, while another tweeted, all caps and excitement, “We’re saying Kojo’s the one who attacked Cindy, agree?! #eastenders.”

Yet another fan piped up: “I think George asking Kojo to cover for him is a red herring. It wouldn’t be this obvious. I think Kojo attacked Cindy. #EastEnders.”

Dropping their two cents, one sleuth projected: “George hiding Kojo’s bloody shirt, imho #EastEnders”, and another came to a blunt conclusion: “Kojo did it … #EastEnders.”

EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer
